What was the alternative you found, please.

The orchid does seem to be becoming obsolete.

I am sure Orchid will sort it for you but there's one other possibility - is your line set to permanently withhold your number? That will prevent Orchid's server from 'seeing' the dialler when you force it home.

Logically, you need to change the first of the procedures above to:

    Lift Handset & dial
    **# 0000 * 147001536207810 * 1
    Replace handset
Time has moved on (much quicker than it used to - or so it seems at my age) and my previous advice on residential telephony has been or is now gradually being overtaken by changes in the retail market. Hence, I have now deleted links to my previous 'pearls of wisdom'. I sincerely hope they helped save some of you money.

Our line is permanently set to withold the number, but doesn't cause this problem. I seem to remember there is a setting regarding cli which you alter in cwclient when you first set it up.

Yes, you can lock the CLI via CW Client if you are doing your own programming. But, AIUI, it is necessary for the first force home call to send CLI before that can be done.

My problem above was solved (eventually) by orchid (at least I think so) - the serial number being given to the server by my box was corrupt and had to be reset.

All OK but just checked and it seems as if the box had now "lost" the setting which were correctly downloaded. I remember my V4+ originally came with a power transformer but I never used it - the power from the line seemed to be enough. I wonder if the dropped settings this time are due to not using the external power supply?? Could anyone look and see what voltage their power supply provides (I've not got the original, but lots of others lying about) - is it a 12V input?

    All help appreciated.

Tried all of the above. Have emailed support at orchid, hopefully they'll get back soon. Unplugged it for now, God knows where it's routing at present if at all.
ajsdoc, did you get a reply from Orchid? I've currently got the same problem.

The original power supply that came with my Orchid V4+ dialler has an output of 9VDC 100mA. -ve on outer shell of the plug, +ve inner. However, back in June this year I started having problems with the dialler when I installed some new telephones. (See my posts starting #350)

All the indications were that the power supply wasn't man enough for the job, even though the dialler is supposed to run without external power, so I replaced the power supply with one giving an output of 12 volt 400mA with instant success.

Heinz (or anybody else in the know!),

Is there any way of verifying that you have been switched over to Primus? We were due to switch yesterday but I'm not sure how you know if it's gone through.

Also, I used the phone tonight when I thought it was well after 18:00, when it dialled I was told it was 0p/min, just checked 18185 and it went through them and charged the 5p connection, turned out the call was at 18:00:15. I'm not bothered about the 5p or who the call went through, just curious if this is common with the Orchids or is it possible that the box has the wrong time? I updated it about a week ago. Is there any way to check the settings on the box?

    Cheers!

    15 seconds isn't really well after 18:00.

You could try ringing another number and see if you get the 0p per min message. If you do, the orchid must have lost its time setting and needs resetting (either manually or with a force home call).
