You can fit a PCI LAN Card, they're cheap and easily available.

Why network 4 leads? you only have 2 computers to connect.

Should the 2 printers or multifunctioner not be connected?

ebuyer etc sell nic's for <£5, but check it doesn't have one first, NIC's have been more or less standard in major manufacturers PC's for 10 years or so.

Still think an encrypted wireless router would be neater, and give you more options.

Netgear routers usually come with 2 adsl filters in the box + 1 shortish cat5 lead. I'd stick to the brand you know, it's easier.

Do you want to give me my shopping list then, you seemed to have done everything else for me? Suppose you want to install it too?

The printers remain connected directly to the PC's and can be shared over the network if required. The multifunction printer (with network connection) plugs into the router.

    Your inbox is full again..

On the laptop, double check this bit:

right click on your wireless network icon, view available wireless networks, change advanced settings, wireless networks, highlight your ssid, properties, connection. Make sure "connect when this network is in range" is ticked. Click OK, advanced, make sure Access point (Infrastrucure) networks only is selected, and automatically connect to non-preferred networks is unticked, click ok.

Then reboot, unwired, see what happens.

make sure you ok everything, It should work straight away or not at all, I don't understand why it takes an hour.

If it doesn't work, right click on the wireless icon and do a repair.
Ever get the feeling you are wasting your time?
