'Ethical' or not, why someone would want to drink something that came out of a cow's udder (and is naturally intended for small calves, not humans) is beyond me. Same with chicken ovulations.

Just as a matter of interest, would you have objections to drinking human milk, which is naturally intended for humans?

Come to think of it, how about honey - any objections to eating that? - seems to be a bit undecided amongst vegans. It is the regurgitated, then re-eaten and regurgitated again and again, food store of the bee.

    Hello all!
I realise I might be a bit late for joining this now HUGE thread but I'm a lifelong vegetarian (and now aspiring vegan) and thought it'd be nice to join in with this and chat to you all :)
I noticed you talking about vegan / veggie events up there ^^^ I expect it's been mentioned already, but has anyone ever been to VegfestUK in Brighton or Bristol? They always have tons of incredible plant-based foods on offer and also traders always seem to have lots of special offers running at the shows (ties in nicely with the money-saving theme of this website :))
Look forward to speaking to you all soon!

    Hi birdguhl :j
Yep, totally love VegFest Bristol, the traders are absolutely fantastic there, much nicer than some of them at a 'SAD and SUKD' food show (sorry but the self appointed you know whats don't like us to refer to the you know whats but you know what I mean). I loved having the bone analysis done, especially as I was off the scale and the strongest bones they'd seen in the study so far

    No and yes
  • Have all the midlands vegans heard of the West Midlands Vegan Festival? It's at the end of next month. It's been on for a few years, but this will be my first time attending. It looks really good! :)

Sounds a good festival. I love been able to go to places and know everything is vegan, saves a lot of label reading, especially when you have to get your reading glasses out!! I like vegan shops too, but not many of them around unfortunately.

If any of you make vegan crafts suitable for gifts and would like to sell online with no commission charges, please get in touch and I will see if I can help you. Don't want to say anymore hear, as its not really the right place.

  • London Vegan Potluck 6 This Wednesday 5th October 2011
    ( new location)

    Hi All

I just wanted to let you know about the next London Vegan Potluck.
Following on from a tremendous five-month stint at the Ms. Cupcake store in Brixton, London Vegan Potluck is moving to an indoor venue in the heart of London due to the approaching cooler weather.

The new venue is a spacious room kindly provided to us by Syracuse University London Program as a gesture of community outreach. The potluck will be in the basement auditorium which is large enough to hold 100+ potluckers and we are extremely grateful to the University.

The space is fantastic and the perfect
    home for our monthly event.

    WHEN:Wednesday 5th October 2011

    WHERE: Faraday House
    48-51 Old Gloucester Street
    London
    WC1N 3AE

The venue is a 3 minute walk from Holborn Underground Station (Piccadilly and
Central Lines) and is serviced by alot of bus routes

    TIME:6-8PM

See below link for more about London Vegan Potluck 6 and
    to RSVP:

    http://fatgayvegan.com/ldnveganpotluck/

On arrival at Faraday House, the friendly reception staff will welcome you and point you in the direction of the potluck.

Hope to see some of you there for great vegan food and really
    nice company.
  • Hello

I am a strict vegetarian and have been for around 9 years. I have tried going vegan twice for about a year each time, but sadly I became very ill each time and had to stop. The second time I discovered this was because I have a list of food allergies as long as my arm (annoyingly including soya). I would love someone to invent a soya alternative!

What were you relying on with soya in/what else are you allergic to? You can get lots of wheat protein-based fake meats, and you can get soya-free vegan margarine. There's plenty of non-soya plant milks, too. :) Maybe a whole foods based approach would suit you better.

Look up seitan, the only downside is it is low in lysine so you would also need to include plenty of legumes in your diet.
Could also try some protein supplements, pea protein isolate, brown rice protein or hemp seed protein, they should be treated as supplements to a healthy diet though rather than a replacement.

I was going to suggest the same..........and that goes for all people, not just veg*ns.

VeggieCatLady - I too have suffered from intolerances, which lead me to going on to be a vegetarian and then a vegan, SO much easier now :j I found that vegan raw food nutrition helped me massively, I feel so much more energised when eat that way, maybe you could look into that and include some things in your diet.
