  • Exactly! DH was 32 when he had his accident and, including saturday jobs, had worked all his life from the age of 16, full time from 19. I also worked full time until I was made redundant while on maternity leave with DS1 and decided to become a SAHM, living off DH's wage and my redundancy. I'm sick of hearing that people on benefits are 'living off other people's taxes'. DH has paid enough tax in 16 years to be living off his own! We certainly aren't 21, never worked with 5 kids and the latest gadgets! We've found ourself in a situation because of the accident in which we need help, but we are also trying to help ourselves too. It's just my opinion but I don't think we are scum!!

  • Totally agree about the programme 'Skint'. We noticed the latest gadgets and mahoosive TV, and how much was that tattoo kit..........nothing against tattoo's but I bet 'the kit's' not cheap.

Don't know what to say about OH keeping his wages a secret. Hope you can sort it out chick. xx

Another one shocked and horrified by "Skint" - especially the chavs with 5 kids, all the expensive gadgets and an attitude of entitlement the size of The Shard.. :(

Re the wages - maybe DH is quietly saving up for a special treat/holiday/new car/something else for the family? That's the assumption I'd make when beginning that particular conversation, DFW.
    ..Good Luck ;)

You were one of the first people I thought about when I heard the Woolwich news, heart goes out to his poor family. Agree the why game wouldn't be so much fun at such a time

Haven't watched skint yet but plan to whilst OH is in work tomorrow. I suppose it's all about what a person think is basic living to them really, some people on here struggle day to day, whilst I struggle to make debt payments but thanks to OH have sufficient to live comfortably but as I said I haven't watched it yet so reserve judgement until then

Totally understand re the wages issue, I've been there too and was pretty miffed, so big hugs for you. Love Robin's reasoning though x

As you know I work with a lot of people of benefits - the majority hate it but for some it is a lifestyle choice.

The funniest thing about the 21 yr old is that because she did not declare her partner for Tax Credits she will have to pay back a years worth of Tax Credits which with 3 and then 5 kids in that year it's going to be a lot of money.
The fact they would have got the same being a couple as single seems to have escaped them.

I see this quite often at work - people think they have been drfrauding the system and winning but really they are the losers. One lady I helped would have got £50 per week more if she had declared her partner (she would have got Working Tax Credit) so it was only her that lost out as she has to pay back £13,000!!

I personally like Dean and his family of 7 or 8 - he's quite a character and trying to bring his/his wife's children up so differently to everyone on the estate.

With regard to the tenant you can still have the HB paid to you even if there is less than 8 weeks rent because there are regulations for people who are persistently late with their rent even if it is less than 8 weeks. Make sure you bear it in mind next time and play her at her own game!!
  • Well good morning :j for us anyway. For those that went out drinking until 3.50am and then had to be up at 8 for work umm well hahahaha (DH!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!) He decided not to even bother texting and went from his work BBQ straight into town. Ummm apparently with no money (He clearly thinks I was born yesterday but whatever) I heard the door go at 3.40 and it took him 10 mins to trip in and shut the door and make it to the couch :rotfl: SO this morning I decided to launch my counter-attack from his out burst yesterday about money!

Cue him 'Do we really have to do this now'

    Me: oh yes (:D)

Him: Right well i'll tell you what then you can have my bank card and take whatever you want on pay day and i'll have whatever is left (SARCASTICALLY)

Me: Yep that'll do thanks. Where is it. Seeing as though you have no money left i'll just have it now (;) completely ignoring sarcasm)

Him: :eek::eek::eek::eek: (look of sheer panic)

    Me: well (taps fingers)

Him: *clearly resigned to the fact I won't back down and he has a stonking headache he gives in and hands over card*

    Wife: 1
    Husband: 0

    :D

So this morning I have picked up 3 gift sets from a local selling site (i know i'm supposed to be selling not buying :o) BUT it's my sister's birthday and they were £1.50 each. So i bought them all :rotfl: one is in my bathroom (dove set with 2 bubble bath/shower gel) and one is ready to give out whenever and the large one (same price though) is a sanctuary set with loads of bits in (looks like it's worth around a tenner :j) is going to be wrapped up for my sister! I only opened one set for me as 1) we've run out of shower gel and dove is more expensive than that anyway to buy seperately and 2) the box was a little dented and tatty so i thought s0d it i'll keep that one :T

Bank is in dire straights as usual. But that's cos I transferred all the money from tenant to pots. Safer there otherwise I will just waste it :o I have to go get £20 out of my bank for tomorrow and i've done petrol already and that's all the spends for the weekend. I already have Monday's child benefit in the bank as it's a bank hol so that is food money (bought meat yesterday in a1di so should just need milk & fruit and veg :))

Weather well less said about that the better. I'm rocking the chinese laundry look put it that way

Well read above (as i hadn't seen your approach :rotfl: which would have probably gone down better :o:rotfl:)

And I think it was purely a sweetie (i.e cider, wine, beer ) fund for him and his playmates! Him being a soldier and in charge of boys/men feels he needs to regularly go out and 'play' see when we went on the DMP this was put to an end. But just recently he's been throwing his dummy out of the pram about it all and so I reckon he thought I was a bit of a div and he could pull the wool over my eyes. Hmm. Didn't end well for him! :D

Well done on the gifts and even better the way you handled your DH :) Also glad tenant paid over some more :)

Weather here is grim for the 1st day of the hols (PD day at school so half term starts here - although no money as yet as my DH holding back too, even though i have seen what his wage slip says!)
