Kwik Fit Misfilled my Car

I hope it is all ok and there is no damage, words fail me that a Porchse has been taken to kwik fitt. I suppose this could happen at any kind of garage if you are unlucky enough but soon as you see who the culprits are I rolled my eyes and muttered the usual expletives- as did everyone else reading this thread.0

Hi thanks for the replies, just to clarify there is isn't a dipstick in the 05 boxter. The oil is checked digitally via the dash.
It wasn't a service or mot just an oil change, irrespective of model ive searched there site it doesn't have an exclusion list I can find. Loads of porsche owners go kwik fit for oil as you can't even but 8 litres for 45 quid. im unsure if there is any damage but id like to know for peace of mind.
Is there any legal recourse if there is damage?0 -

it beggars belief that a Porsche owner would worry about saving a few quid on oil by going to Kwik-bust; IMO you get all you deserve...
If you are so concerned with 'peace of mind' then go to a decent workshop, it's not as if we are short of Porsche independents. The questions that get the best answers are the questions that give most detail....0 -
Yes there is recourse if they've caused damage but I doubt they have, the car is probably telling you it's low on oil not that its run out!
I don't like the electronic dipsticks
I changed the oil on mums car by the book, level surface, followed the manual re: waiting for the oil to settle etc, and the electronic dipstick insisted it was full at a litre less than I expected to have to put in (I'd put in 6 litres, expecting it to take 7), I thought OK then, I will trust it but recheck it soon. She drove it around for a day and then I checked it again; it still said it was full!
Two days later up pops "Low oil - please top up", this is just the friendly message to let you know it could do with a bit more, not the "You've run me bone dry and killed me you !!!!!!" low oil pressure warning light...
But obviously mum doesn't know the difference, so cue her panicking and me getting it in the neck... "never work on my car again"... suits me, I do it as a favour, never charge...
If the oil is just a bit low, then that may be similar to what is happening here... if in doubt about the warning message, ask them to send someone out to you to top it up, I'd imagine they would be happy to do this.0 -

It's a bit like the guy I saw the other day, pulled up at a petrol station in a very nice 2 year old Jag XKR and proceeded to put £6 worth of fuel in it.....
Reckon he spent all the money on the car and now lives in relative poverty
He looked over at me very sheepishly as my pump got to £70 and kept on going.:rotfl:
OP are you sure they under filled? Did your gauge say it was under filled?
It's just as likely they over-filled or used the wrong grade of engine oil.“I may not agree with you, but I will defend to the death your right to make an a** of yourself.”

So what oil did they actually use for the change? Was it a fully synthetic oil, of the correct grade? It does say on their website:
"Some cars take special oils, many of which we stock."
Which of course implies that there are some that they don't stock.0 -
Talking of quality oils and affordability.
Opie oils are currently offering Fuchs 5W40 fully synthetic for around £22.67 for 5 litres.
I don't know if its within spec for the OP's car but its a bargain high quality oil if anyone needs this spec.

What did you expect for "£45" a porche trained technician or a formula one pit stop crew Waiting for you.0

Because unlike you and I Steve, they know nothing about cars and out their trust in others.
I do however find it strange that someone with a Porsche Boxster entrusts KwikFit with any work at all.
The spanner monkeys must have rubbed their hands with glee when they saw this one enter the gates of Hell:rotfl:
But if the expert has to ask the layman question on how much to fill the car with and where to check. My instance response would be to question this guys ability to do the job properly.
Fair enough not knowing you can't expect them to remember what ever car needs much but asking the customer is just stupid0 -
The OP has not said some of the most important details
How much oil did he actually put in it?
What sort of oil was it?
What does the manual say is the oil capacity? You do know how to read the manual I presume.0
