Hugs Lucky - I hope they can find the right medication soon (and do you get carer's allowance? if so have you contacted the local carers group - they might be able to point you in the direction of more help)

  • Thanks again everyone, your support is invaluable :A.

No more seizures through the night but DH is still flat out. This is a lie in for him as he normally wakes between 5-6am every morning and has done since the accident, so it's obvious he is still not right. DS2 woke coughing and spluttering at 5am so I've been awake since then anyway.

Satchmo, I feel the same, it's getting scarier in a lot of ways. The seizure episodes seem to be getting closer together not further apart and that's despite VERY high levels of medication. Although a lot of usual warning signs were there, some weren't and some new ones have developed. It still feels very much a learning curve. On the positive he only had one seizure and avoided hospital, but on the negative it happened during the day not through the night which is his more 'normal' pattern. I'm just so pleased that it happened at home as we could have been out somewhere which would have added to the stress.

Knit witch, yes I do get Carers Allowance. I need to register with my local Carer's centre, but I've been on their website this morning and got all the details. It made me cry reading how 'carers often forget to care for themselves'. Wuss.

So today we are supposed to be doing a 1 mile charity walk as a family. I want to do it but I don't want DH to do it. I'm not sure I should leave him with MiL as she is not good under pressure. I'm also supposed to be at work tonight :(. I really should go as they are very short staffed. Think I'll see how DH actually is when he wakes up before I decide anything.

Sorry I didn't read the whole thread but I just wanted to reply to this one. You can't do it all, if you try you are doing a disservice to yourself as well as all the people who need you.
If you overdo it it's only going to backfire and you could make yourself ill, in which case everybody else is going to be worse off anyway.
You need to take good care of yourself so that you can give your best :)
Maybe work will be able to get an agency worker in to help?
Maybe you can do a charity run another time?
Wish you all the best :)
  • Omg, i'm sorry to hear DH had another seizure, the wrong medication wouldn't set it off would it (i.e maybe this medication isn't agreeing with him?) as it seems not so long ago that he had a seizure. Big hugs, you cope so well xxxx I hope that you get everything done that you need to do today but as for the rest i'd be leaving it for another day (charity walk included) xxx

  • Thanks terra and DF(w). I know if it was someone else I'd be saying the same thing as you two, but I don't like letting people down. I can avoid the walk but I'm supposed to be giving someone else a lift and I don't want to make her miss it too. Work tonight only has 3 people in (including me) and there really should be 5 or more. It's going to be awful just with 3 never mind if I don't go and that leaves them with 2.

DH still asleep, so again decision may be made for me when I see how he is when he wakes up.

    Hi Lucky, :hello:

Sorry to hear DH has had another seizure. :(

Recently someone made a comment on my diary which really struck home; that they could see a recurring theme to my posts (in my case, it is trying to do too much for adult kids).

Have to say there is also a recurring theme to yours; you - and obviously DH too - spend so much time worrying about whether another seizure is about to strike, it destroys much of the enjoyment in life which is a great shame.

Have you thought any more about the possibility of getting a trained assistance dog?
Depending on the dog's signals, you'd know if DH is just being bad tempered or whether it's time to get him to a safe place and reach for whatever preventative drugs he's been prescribed.

Sorry, don't want to nag so won't go on about all the advantages I can see - plus am using faulty pc so losing screen fast - but please do consider this option.
If it's a matter of needing funds to pay for training a suitable dog, you shouldn't regard that as a bar. Between us all, am certain we could come up with enough fund-raising ideas. ;)

Hope DH's long sleep did him good, and your whole family has a better day today. :)

    (((Hugs))) and love,
    Rxx

ps. If you're not certain DH is ok, call work asap and tell your supervisor they will have to call in someone else to cover your shift this evening. Priorities - [STRIKE]what's[/STRIKE] who is more important?
