Hi Lucky - sorry to hear about your little one's broken arm - you were all having such a lovely time too! I'm sure he'll enjoy showing off his plaster to everyone though - boys seem to like this sort of thing.

It made me laugh reading through everyone's "talk". My mum never got round to it and I'm another one who thought I was bleeding to death. Shouted my mum "help I'm bleeding from somewhere" and she said "oh yes was going to talk to you about that". She gave me huge sanitary towel that attached to a belt which ended up halfway up your back when you walked about. She had early menopause and these old fashioned ones were the only ones she had in. Luckily stick on ones had been invented by then and I got her to buy me some of those. Never got the where babies come from talk and I thought the bloke stuck his wotsit in your belly button until I was about 14. I was disgusted when I found out the truth! Oh those innocent days!

Hope your lovely days out continue now after the slight hiccup.

  • Thanks everyone for the well wishes. DS2 was awake 5 times in the night and was really upset and in pain when he woke to start the day at 7.30am. I thought we were going to end up back in hospital (they said to take him back if the pain wasn't manageable), but he seems better now the latest dose of calpol has kicked in. We are alternating between that and child's ibuprofen. It's absolutely peeing down here and has been all night so we are just going to snuggle on the sofa and watch dvds all day.

SA, how funny that you thought it happened through your belly button :rotfl: Xx

Sorry to hear little one and therefore you, have had a bad night. Snuggles on the sofa sounds like just what the dr ordered.

This 'talks' talk has reminded me of something that happened to me and my bestie.

We were in the girls yard, hovering near the fence to the boys yard, drooling over the boy of our dreams. He and his mate asked us if we were V1rg1ns, to which in our most offended tones we replied, most certainly not. :rotfl: We couldn't work out why their interest in us increased 10 fold over the next few days. We were in 1st year seniors, so about 11 at the time.

It wasn't until I spoke to my big sis, 4 years older than us, that I discovered we'd got things the wrong way round. :o We never did come clean to them but avoided them in embarrassment for ages after. :rotfl:

I never had the 'talk' from my mum, which may be why I had a baby at 18 :D

Oh Lucky - life in your household certainly isn't boring! Glad you enjoyed Beamish, but what a shame DS2 has broken his arm again.. :(
I hope your DS2 isn't too uncomfortable now; a day snuggling on the sofa sounds ideal. :)

My DS2 was also very accident-prone when he was young; at least once a year until he was seven, we ended up in hospital covered in his blood - every time it was a head wound so now he has quite a collection of scars. :o

My Mum didn't get around to having 'the talk' with me, either; precocious puberty pre-empted that, but experience with pets and farm animals meant I wasn't quite clueless. ..Can still remember the look on her guests' faces when - aged eight - I interrupted their coffee morning by announcing I'd come into season! :rotfl:
  • Lol Robin and Granny :rotfl:. 8 though Robin  I thought I was young at 12!!

We are having a Harry Potter Marathon here :D. In prep for going to Alnwick Castle soon with a well timed Gr0upon offer and their forthcoming Harry Potter days :T. We went a couple of years ago and loved it, especially when DS1 was selected from the crowd as a Weasley thanks to his red hair :rotfl:. That time DS2 was only a baby in his pram though and had just had surgery to remove a cyst from his eyelid. He looked like he had been punched in the eye in all the photographs bless him, and I made the mistake of thinking he will be fit and well in all the photos this time. Well he will be, apart from the plaster hopefully!!

I have been offline for a few days and what a lot happens in your family!

It is very much like mine was with four very active children. DS3 is known very well at our local minor injury centre. They say he helped keep it open when it was threatened with closure.

I hope DS2 is not too uncomfortable with a plaster on in this hot weather.

Your trip to Beamish has given me the idea to take my niece there when she comes over from Australia in September. I bet she would love it. We want to show her things she wouldn't see in Oz. Thinking of it now gives me time to find offers.

I hope you are keeping well and not overdoing things :)

I'm hoping things are a bit better in your household today, Lucky? What a blessing Calpol is..... It works wonders :-).

After reading your post I looked on Groupon at the Alnwick Castle deal. It looks really good. I think I might get a family ticket myself, as both Princess and Munchkin like the Harry Potter films. Did I hear you say there were special HP days or is everyday there about Harry Potter?

Hope you all get a better nights sleep..... You need your rest!!! :-) X

  • There are 3 special Harry Potter events over the summer Enchanted, each one is about 3 days long so 9 potential days to visit. The first event starts today until Wednesday I believe, and the next one in a couple of weeks or so. The Alnwick Castle website has all the details.

DS2 ended up in my bed last night and DH was relegated to the sofa. I was desperate for sleep and would have done anything to get it :o. DS2 hasn't slept in my bed for well over a year so I hope he sees it as a one off rather than an invite every night!

Pooh, I'm pleased to have provided inspiration for your niece's visit Xx

Aw, poor old DS2, a broken arm is a really nasty shock and not the best way to start the holidays! I bet an impending trip to a Harry Potter themed castle is taking his mind off it though - that sounds amazing! Are you going to get them dressed up?

Re the talk - I steadfastly refused to have it with my Mother, everytime she threatened to bring it up I just ran out of the room. I worked out the go of things from the library. I was amused by all the period panickers though - that's how the Samaritans came into existence, a young girl committed sucide because she thought she was dying and didn't have anyone to talk to, which is terribly sad. Robin, your story was my favourite really made me chuckle.

I really want to visit Beamish, I Googled it after you posted and it looks like something I'd love.

  • You should definitely put Beamish on the bucket list Fudgie! It's like stepping back in time and the old fashioned cinder toffee and sweeties are worth it all on their own :p.

I never knew that about the Samaritans. That's so sad :(. We have one set of Harry Potter quiditch robes so think DS2 will be sporting those. DS1 is too cool for things like that these days!

Today has unexpectedly turned into a house day and a NSD. A family friend dropped in to visit which was lovely but meant we stayed in for the morning. We then had lunch and just as we finished and were discussing going to a park or something, the Heavens opened and dropped about a months worth of rain in 20 mins. It then continued off and on for the afternoon. We didn't have any money to go anywhere indoors so we just stayed put. I made some coconut macaroons and cleared out my wardrobe. Rock n' Roll :D.
