  • DH survived :j. He finished the course in 1hr 42 minutes and was chuffed with that as last year's average was 2hrs 5mins. I was just pleased to get him home in one piece!

Work was quite busy last night but overall ok even though I was super tired. Really have to ask for some maternity work pants as I can't do them up at all now. You can't tell as I wear a chef's apron over the top, but you will be able to tell if they fall down .

Been doing some calculations and we are super skint this week :(. We have about £15 'extra' to last us until a week tomorrow and that's if we don't do any food shopping. Will have to get extra creative all round. If it stays dry we can have lots of free days out, but if it rains - which is forecast - then we are a bit stuck. :(

  • Aside from walking along to the local park we haven't been anywhere today, so a much needed NSD today, and no diesel used. :T

Been having some very low grade crampy feelings in my tummy, really hoping it's just everything stretching out rather than anything more sinister.:(

  • Hope everything is ok Lucky. I'm sure it will be. Try not to worry and make sure you get plenty of rest!

Sounds like you are up for the challenge of this week. At least you know where you are money wise and can't therefore budget accordingly. Its when I say 'Ahhhhhh, what the heck' and throw caution to the wind we always end up skint. I'm sure you will come up with lots of amazing ideas..... Just don't forget to share ;-)

I am pleased your DH managed the challenge well. DS1 did it in about the same time. He didn't know about it until Friday when he stepped in to someone else's place. Had no preparation and is suffering today.

Please don't do too much. Have a day off and put your feet up. One thing we used to do with our kids was make obstacle courses in the garden. Get DH to move heavy things. Even DD remembers them as the best bit of the holidays. We had them climbing over benches, under sheets or garden netting, round the swingball, through paddling pool. Just like daddy :D You can do them indoors too if the weather is bad.

  • Thanks Enchanted :A according to google and the girls on the 'less than 12 weeks pregnant' thread it's all very normal, but it's so hard not to worry after last time.

We normally do sail quite close to the wind money wise, but this week is worse than normal, presumably because we spent more the last 2 weeks. Even doing school holidays on the cheap is more expensive than 'normal life'. We have certainly spent more on diesel and food shopping at least.

So my plan is to have as many NSD's/LSD's as possible. If it's rainy it will have to be a stay-at-home day or a free museum or something, and if it's sunny it will be out with a picnic. Alnwick castle have Harry Potter days Mon-Wed this week so will use our voucher for that if we get a dry day, and we can do National Trust or English Heritage sites with our memberships. The £15 will probably be used on top up shopping but I have Mr T clubcard vouchers if we are desperate. Hate spending those on normal shopping, but if needs must then I will. Otherwise, it's dregs of the freezer for us all week!!

    'Morning Lucky, :hello:

Phew - glad to hear DH survived his challenge unscathed! Dare say he slept well afterwards, and it must have given his self-esteem a boost. :T

I second the "home obstacle course" amusement - we did this too but of course the big kids** got carried away; eventually we ended up with a semi-permanent tree-house [ladder up, tent on top, rope down] plus death-swing, hanging bars (an old ladder bolted horizontally from tree-house to dog-house roof). Then at various times they built an [imaginary] croc-pond which had to be traversed on upturned flower-pots, a looong cardboard box tunnel with bends, a 'plane-style 'emergency chute' from tree-house into pool..
For parties, DSD1 would incorporate treasure hunt clues or tasks that teams of younger kids had to complete as they went round the course which she, DS1 and any under-employed adults had great fun building - overall the children must have had months of enjoyment from re-inventing this game down the years; all it cost was a length of strong rope, and fuel to collect scrap timber and huge boxes from a furniture warehouse. The emergency chute was a length of canvas I had left over from another project, and the big blow-up pool was a shared gift from Grandpa.

Oops sorry - got carried away with good memories there.. :o:D

** "Big kids" - those between twelve and fifty years old! ;)
  • Fantastic memories there Robin! I'm not sure I can be as inventive but I shall get my thinking cap on. It's pouring down today though so we can't get outside, at least it gives me more time to think.

So today, because it's wet, will be another in-house day. Think we will do some craft type stuff (sticking/colouring/glueing), baking, tidying and probably watch another movie together. Another NSD if all goes to plan.

Cramps have gone :j:j Backache has returned though boo :(.
