Weddings are public events and you can't prevent anybody from attending - so all of these "no children" requests are pointless.

As for specifying what your guests can wear - surely that's the height of rudeness? It is presumably their company that you want? My mum was upset that our best man turned up in shorts but I couldn't give a stuff.

I believe that weddings are classed as private functions, and you certainly can prevent someone from attending. Some weddings have ushers who will specifically check invitations and instruct people which side of the church or registry room (if apllicable) to sit on.

Nope, anyone can wander into a church wedding.

Not sure about registry offices but I think part of the legality of them is that they have to be public, it would be more awkward to gatecrash one though!

You can decide not to invite children to the reception held on private property of course, but then you can't moan when people don't come because of it!

Weddings have got out of all proportion in the last few years, I blame Hello magazine. Some people seem to think they're entitled to behave and treat people however they want because its 'my special day'. I hope there'll be a backlash soon!

The wedding itself is public, as are funerals. You can invite whoever you like to the party afterwards though.

Yes nothing private about a wedding ceremony.
I have friends whose religion forbids non members of their church from entering their temples where weddings are held so over here they have to have a civil ceremony too as the temple service isn't legal soley because it isn't open to anyone to attend. In other countries the marriage in the Temple alone is legal...............so nothing the bride can do about beardies attending the ceremony but the reception is an entirely different matter.

    MSE Florida wedding .....no problem
  • At my wedding there were no beards, no children, no hats, no fascinators, no inappropriate outfits. Nothing that would cause the slightest bit of upset to anyone.

How did we manage that? No guests! :rotfl:

Of course I can. I can't stop them attending the ceremony but I have no idea where they think will put their child when the reception starts because there will be no food for them, no space for them at the table and no entertainment.
