Oh good, not just me then!

I keep hearing people go on about how great Zumba is, I did try it on the Wii, but could not get to grips with it at all. Maybe I just have a rubbish rythm :o

To those who have tried both: Is Just Dance easier than Zumba?

people confuse the fact that cardio is the fastest way to lose fat but it is not the best

body building/weight lifting, same thing to me

if you compete you are either a body builder or a strong man/woman, both of which take roids (not all but some)

    Same thing?

Bodybuilders go for 'shape' and definition, body builders aren't that strong really.

Powerlifters/weight lifters go for strength and aren't bothered about muscle definition you will notice they are huge but not sculptured.

So same thing to someone with no idea but it most deffo not the same thing! But meh whatever you're happy to believe, just don't know why anyone trys to help you by explaining to you when you're just a moron who won't listen.

Really? I never knew that, it just shows what you can learn on here. I assumed that they were one and the same. :o

It's not something I'd do as for for me it's mainly about the feel good factor of feeling strong, fit and healthy, but how does 'sculpting/bodybuilding' work?

I'll back tinkerbell up here and say that resistance training is by far the best way to lose fat. Lifting heavy weights breaks down the muscle which then has to repair itself and grown back, this burns calories. Extra muscle gained burns calories at a rate of 50 a day per pound of muscle, even if you spend all day on your backside.

You can most definitely build muscle and burn fat simultaneously. Bodybuilders go through bulking and cutting stages because they're pushing the limits and take things to extremes, just look at them! In competition they get to body fat percentages of around 3-4%, which is unsustainable. Getting to just 10-12% will give you a very healthy look with a bit of a six pack.

As for professional weight lifters and body builders not taking drugs, you'd be very naive to believe that. They just take drugs that can't be detected, or additional drugs to mask the effects of the steroids so that they don't test positive.

Its a case of "Calories In vs Calories Out".

Running/Walking/Cycling/Weight lifting etc are all good, aslong as the scales are balanced more to the "Calories Out" side.

Unfortunately its not going to be easy for the first few weeks. Muscles that are unused will be waking up, aching and you wont want to carry on. I found this when i started running. My love handles hurt from twisting when running, my calf's hurt when running, and my thighs hurt the next few days.

They key is to make a plan, and stick with it.

I'd like to know this too. I have rubbish rhythm, I struggle to keep up with the step exercise on Wii Fit, my feet don't go where they're meant to. :o

Are you sure? Vigorous dancing uses around 2x the amount of calories per minute, compared to weight training. Then there's the effect of the ongoing raised metabolic rate for the next 12-24 hours.

I know weight lifting builds muscle, but so does weight bearing aerobic exercise. It does it less dramatically, I grant you.

Maybe it depends how much time you have available.

How much time do you spend weight training in an average week Tinks? I do about 90 mins aerobic exercise most days.
Do you follow an aerobic dvd? If so, which one? Ive been going on my cross trainer on alternate days, and speed walking down the couuntry lanes near my house. Glad no one can see me doing that! :rotfl:

Anyone else having a fat day? Think I really need to start a proper exercise plan. I saw a news article about some now famous fitness instructor in the US how she started out overweight and used weights to help her lose weight. Does it really work?

I think you will get as many replies saying "yes" as you will "no".

As I said earlier, Mrs G finds that using weights accelerates fat loss. However, she also eats sensibly too. Weights on their own don't work.

The benefit of using weights over pure dieting is that you end up slimmer and more toned into the bargain.
