I love dancing games and things like Wii Fit, but M.E means that even the tiniest thing causes extreme exhaustion. I can't even stand up for long etc.

I'm not a "fattie". I'm a size 8, but want to tone up. I long for the day the M.E decides to give me a break so I can dance again!

I second Tinks, I hope you start to feel better very soon.:A

(((Hugs))) honey. One day things will start to ease and bit by bit you will become well and healthy. In the meantime, massages may help to tone you as they encourage blood flow to the skin and muscles.

    Thank you both.

Jay - I didn't think of massage! I was going to invest in one of those Slendertone things to help contract the muscles as I can't exercise but they're a bit expensive, so I want to know if they work first! lol.

DH gets exercise by pushing me in my wheelchair.:rotfl: I'm not heavy but he says it's a workout and a half.:p

taking how boring it may or may not be out of the equation

it is still the best thing for fat loss

the more muscle you have the more cals you burn at rest

you burn calories during and for hours after weight training, you may not burn as many cals during the weights as you do during cardio but after is as important as during

btw HIIT is the best cardio for fat loss ;)

I disagree, weights isn't the best thing for fat loss. I do agree that the more muscle you have the more calories you burn at rest but it isn't a fat burner as such. There's a reason bodybuilders have cutting stages, purely doing weights won't result in much fat loss.

Ideally you'd do a mix of weights and cardio but it would depend on your goals. Both will have a bit of crossover anyway.

You just have to look at the build of athletes, marathon runners are always super skinny where as weightlifters normally have a bit of a belly bulge.

I honestly think weights are important but the best form of fat loss? No way.

Competitive weightlifters aren't allowed to take steroids, they're tested for them if they wish to complete at any sort of level.

The reason they carry a bit of body fat is because they purely train with weights due to the nature of their sport. They might be extremely strong but I reckon most of them would struggle to finish a medium distance run.

Bodybuilders on the other hand need both the muscle and minimal fat which is why they have bulking stages, to increase the muscle and cutting stages, to reduce the fat.

The other issue is that to increase muscle while weight lifting you need to eat a lot, which doesn't normally mix well with fat loss. Besides, I doubt most of the people in this topic want to gain a noticable increase in muscle.

Mrs G is not a fatty by any means, nor is she a body builder, but she finds weight training combined with a sensible diet is the best way to tone up and lose stubborn pounds. It certainly doesn't result in a belly bulge, quite the opposite.

    Horses for courses, I suppose.

Neither are weightlifters, they're bodybuilders. To be honest I've no idea what the drug criteria is for bodybuilding events but I'd imagine that they'll still be drug tests.

It's quite well known Arnie took steroids, it was fairly common back then.

people confuse the fact that cardio is the fastest way to lose fat but it is not the best

body building/weight lifting, same thing to me

if you compete you are either a body builder or a strong man/woman, both of which take roids (not all but some)
