These are nothing more than excuses!

That would suggest I feel the need to excuse myself? Wrong!

Seems Mr Vine needs to watch where he's going a little more closely ;)

Happened to me just a few minutes ago, AGAIN. Well except the drivers saw me in time. I appreciate people being polite and letting each other out but wish they wouldn't do it, at all, if there's a cycle lane immediately to their left.

    Without checking further [sorry].....

but.....if that happened whilst the driver was undergoing a driving test, they would receive a serious fault [fail!]....

Too many drivers have a skewed opinion of what constitutes courtesy on the road.

Whilst they may have good intentions...and 'see no harm' in what they do....they obviously haven't 'risk-assessed' their actions! [to use a modern idiom]

Well, the DSA have....and that is why such actions on a driving test are viewed askance.

[If one intends to exercise what one considers to be courtesy, first ask the question ..'do you control all other road users?'

Are you able to display a lawfully accepted signal which notifies all others as to exactly what you are trying to achieve?]

[I have yet to find a set of lights on the back of a car which light up saying ...'STOP, I'm trying to let this road user out.....' Of course, if one applies assumption that what one is doing 'is obvious', we would never have accidents or upset others, would we?]
No, I don't think all other drivers are idiots......but some are determined to change my mind.......

Couldn't agree more. I do still flash people out when in my car though, but being a city cyclist as well I know when not to do so!

trouble is, with that sort of 'courtesy', the perpetrators become incredibly self-righteous when challenged.

It never ceases to amaze me how folk who have apparently held licences for 30 years, still don't really know what they're doing......but try convincing them of that?

All the world's an expert.....except the experts?

And of course any cyclist who has been on the road does????:T

I'm sorry these arguments don't work, you can't separate riders from drivers with statements like that. As said there are good, bad and indiffe3rent in each camp whether they have been on the road for 30 years or 30 minutes.
I like the thanks button, but ,please, an I agree button.

Will the grammar and spelling police respect I do make grammatical errors, and have carp spelling, no need to remind me.;)

Always expect the unexpected:eek:and then you won't be dissapointed
