Anyone seen any figures from the likes of RAC and AA regarding breakdowns over the last couple of days vs a normal day? The news is useless in that respect, saying 1000's of cars have broken down tells us nothing as lots of cars break down every day anyway. This would be useful data if it shows an increase in vehicles with fuel faults clumped round particular areas.
Reading this signature is a waste of time
  • My wife has just broken down in our 3 year old Renault Clio.

All the breakdown signs point towards the contaminated fuel problem, but we don't yet know for sure. The AA have just arrived.

We put £20 of unleaded in yesterday but in a Sainsburys Shell petrol station.

Has anyone heard of others being affected by petrol from these petrol stations or is it just Tesco / Morrisons / Asda?
    Thanks.

When something like this happens (faulty fuel scare), it is only natural to suspect the fuel for every problem that occurs.

It is possible that your car has failed because of faulty fuel. It's also possible that the failure has nothing to do with the fuel. There's a (really) small risk that your problem is caused by a different fuel problem (water contamination for example). The breakdown service ought to be able to guide you on this.

I'm sure some lady will have a minor knock in the supermarket car park today and blame the faulty fuel. :rotfl:

    :)

It was only a question, not an accusation.

As it happens, you are correct, it was a faulty coil.

    Thanks all the same.

Last night's news mentioned the 'silicone' found in the petrol. Public lost confidence & going elsewhere.

It seems that there was silicon found in the distrobution centre in Essex so Vopak, the owner of the plant are to blame. Greenergy and Harvest Energy both store petrol in these facilities, which explains why all of the supermarkets are affected and not just the ones supplied by Greenergy.

I always fill up at a Morrisons supplied by the Essex depot, and haven't had any problems. But I drive a 1988 Ford Fiesta.

What amazes me is the map on the BBC website that has people from Dundee and Belfast claiming they have had "dodgy petrol".

Your car does not have an Oxygen sensor, therefore nothing for contaminated fuel to damage.
