They were saying on the news that the problem fuel will most likely have been and gone so maybe if we were going to get hit we would have been by now. Seems like it could have been up to 2 weeks ago when the problems very first started. They will also be checking the fuel like mad now so maybe we shouldnt worry too much about itThanx

I'm disappointed to hear that the ABI say that drivers with comprehensive cover should be able to claim against their insurer.
Meanwhile, the supermarkets insist it is not their fuel. I expect my premiiums will rise again next year.
So, I take it that the supermarkets can only conclude that it is the air around their stores that has caused this problem. This must a bigger cause for concern. perhaps they'll order all food to be returned.
I just hope the insurers take legal against the supermarkets.

Tesco's can't win can they?
People complain that there aren't enough detergents in their petrol.
They add extra stuff.
People complain that it knackers up their car."One thing that is different, and has changed here, is the self-absorption, not just greed. Everybody is in a hurry now and there is a 'the rules don't apply to me' sort of thing." - Bill Bryson0 -
Would it be cheaper to fill with Fairy liquid?

My friends had this problem, has to take her car to vauxhall to be sorted out as it won't start, saying it has high levels of carbon monoxide!"I did then, what I knew then. And when I knew better, I did better"0

I'm no expert on this type of thing but am applying what basic knowledge of chemistry I have.
The fuel in question contains ethanol - nothing new there since ethanol is added to unleaded petrol to increase the octane level, preventing auto ignition. It seems that something has went wrong in the refining process however and there is too much ethanol in these blends of petrol. Since ethanol contains oxygen, that'd explain why the problems are with the oxygen sensors.Lady_K wrote:They said on the news that BP Ultimate is safe as its from the UK and not affected.
Greenergy fuel (the fuel in question) is produced in the UK so your comparison is not really relevant at all..... Standard BP 95 octane fuel should be okay since it's produced in different refineries........
It's all very well to blame the supermarkets saying they only care about profit when in fact the fuel produced by Greenergy is more environmently friendly - Ethanol is a renewable substance and is not carcinogenic like Benzene which is also added to fuel to prevent auto ignition.
I think they should be accepting responsibility however, the thousands of people affected by this can't be suffering from mass coincidence.0 -
There is a danger that Tesco/Morrisons will be blamed for every car that goes wrong.
