Tesco and/or Morrisons contaminated Petrol

Tesco have just paid me £547 for my car being off the road 5 days and the repair costing £334 and about £63 in taxi fairs.
It looks like they have paid £30 a day compensation which I am very happy with and would like to thank Tesco for a fast responce.
Did you provide any evidence for the number of days being offroad or did they just take it for granted? I've been offroad for three days so far. Looks like it might be another three or four!! How quickly did they process your claim?0 -
I filled my Corsa with some Tesco petron on the 12th Feb and around two weeks ago my emmission light illuminated. I ignored it because it was weeks since the petrol scare - thankfully the light went out a couple of days later!
But low and behold on Friday my car had no acceleration, was noisy and misfired. On Saturday it wouldn't even start. My garage are saying it is due to the contaminated fuel and are getting samples.
My concerns...
a. It's taken weeks for the problem to actually rear its head - is this normal? I though the problem occured within days of filling up?
b. I only have evidence of filling up on the 12th Feb (around the time of the problem) and 12th March (too late!). I will defo have filled up at Tesco between these dates but I don't have any evidence as I paid cash :O( Will the 12th Feb be sufficient do you think?0 -

I'd actually used the whole tank of petrol before the problem reared it's ugly head, although in our case that takes just over a week. I guess it depends how many miles you drive. Concerning point B, did you use a clubcard? They can trace it that way. Other than that you could ask them to check the cctv footage for your car registration perhaps?I like cooking with wine......sometimes I even put it in the food!0 -
I've just received my cheque from Asda to cover the repairs for my car. They sent me £216 but the repairs cost £503!! I rang them and they said they would only pay for relevant repairs but the £503 was what it cost to fix the problem. I had a new engine last year so I know there was nothing else wrong with the car. What do I do now?0

They refunded for repairs and the cost of the petrol that caused the problem.Steve0 -
Hi!
It took Morrisons insurers (Centa) about two weeks to provide a cheque after I sent them all the receipts. They phoned up to agree the amount and the bloke I spoke to was very pleasent and helpful.
They will refund the cost of the fares and the dodgy petrol as well as the repair costs. They will if you push them give you £10 a day as well for the inconvienience of not having a car.
I suspect I may have got a bit more money for the hassle, but I was so surprised when they said they'd pay I accepted their first offer.
Good luck

Asda have now paid out in full plus 60 pounds compensation, 3 weeks after I submitted the claim. No quibble , no arguements. What can I say well done ASDA.0

I am amazed that I have just received a cheque from Tesco for the "full and final settlement" of the fuel claim that I submitted rather late.
The car was repaired on 27th March with a new catalytic converter and oxygen sensors after "engine faltering" as the garage put it.
The garage stated on the receipt that the fault "might be due to contaminated petrol" - note that it did not say that it definately was.
The last time that we filled up at one of the affected garages before the problem was 30th Jan - quite some time before the problems started.
We didn't get around to submitting the claim to Tesco until end of April as we doubted very much that they would accept it. I actually then forgot all about it.
Amazingly we have just received a cheque for £501.62 in settlement of the claim - despite the fact that the repair bill was 'only' £470.08. They have added on about £30 - presumably as compensation.
I would therefore say to anyone who still has not submitted a claim - or is maybe unsure if they qualify, should just go ahead and do it as it might not be too late!0
