They have added on about £30 - presumably as compensation.
When I got compensation from ASDA they added the cost of the contaminated petrol from the receipt I sent with the repair invoice. Maybe that's what the extra £30 is for.

Yes of course - I hadn't thought of that. Still, I'm dead pleased as I nearly didn't bother claiming and £500 is a lot of money in anyone's book!

Tescos have told me that whilst they agree I did fill my car with contaminated fuel, they do not consider that the contaminated fuel could have affected the ECU (which isthe part that was replaced days after filling up). Has anybody else received compensation for a replaced ECU?

Well Mine was bought at Tesco in Buckingham. There are 2 petrolstations on my route and as I go to Tesco fruit for work (I buy my own from an organic fruit and veg box scheme) it's a natural place to stop and top up. And I get clubcard points ;)
My mechanic has already told me he has had another car in a few weks ago that was damaged because Tesco Buckingham has some contaminated fuel - somethign about the tanker not havign been cleaned proerly but now he's wondering if that was true and if it's infact part of this big thing going on...

He agrees that chances are this is what caused my problems and to keep a firm hold of my discarded ECU (thank goodness I hadn't gotten round to throwing it away!!!) and keep topping up at the other garage in town and buy their ultimate unleaded for a while. more expensive yes but as he said if the damage has already been done or not then you loose only a few pennies by buying more expensive fuel for a week or two...

Sounds like you were either conned by the repairer or it was nothing to do with contaminated petrol.

Hey guys, with the second thread regarding contaminated fuel from Tesco, is it worth putting this thread back as a temp sticky?

(fetches bucket of sticky paste and step ladder) OK - Thread Stuck :)

If you've had problems, please remember to list the following in your post:

    1) Type of fuel you normally use
    2) Which area you're in
    3) Which petrol station you used
    4) Date/time you filled up

(and keep hold of that receipt!)

If anyone spots newspaper/TV stories on this subject, do post here with a link, if possible.
