Just wanted to say the mirena coil mentioned in this thread has stood the test of time for me personally and in testing generally. It lasts up to 5 years with excellent contraception record and reduces or eliminates periods as a bonus. It's been such a trouble-free 5 years for me - no mess or period pains though some of the usual water-retention. The nurse who checked me out today said she'd got all the women in her family on it, but not all NHS practices are enthusiastic because (I think) there is an initial cost to them and it can be fiddly to fit - but do your research and insist if you think it's the thing for you.

I would worry about the long term health implications of using something like this. I can understand the not wanting periods every month, who does!!! ... but to my mind it's messing with what Mother Nature intended, and surely that's not a good thing

I agree Curry Queen. I was on the pill about 10 years ago and the side effects were terrible. I would now never use chemicals like that to mess up my body especially since I heard about that girl who died because of it. I actually by accident discovered the natural way to work out my cycle so I can predict 13 days in advance when I'm due on and when I'm ovulating etc.. It's great and the mooncup just perfectly compliments it.

A couple of women at work who I've mentioned the mooncup to have said it's disgusting. This really annoys me because it's like saying women's bodies are disgusting. In other parts of the world, they celebrate when a girl starts her periods. The mooncup has helped me view my cycle in a more positive way and I think it's great.

    I used that method for a number of years....Did i tell you i have 5 children? ;)

No joking aside, it worked very well for me too - however, it didnt work very well for MrJudi. I wonder why he thought my 'No' meant 'Yes'? :D

This post will definately dissapear by nightfall.:o

If you search the website below it will explain it better than I can but basically you need to identify when your fertile period is by observing 'certain signs' :D I don't want to say the word beginnig with d! Then the day you don't have this, count 13/14 days (you'll need to work out this for your own cycle). I personally count 13 days inclusive and I always come on on the day I predict. This is basically because no matter how long or short your cycle, periods usually occur 2 weeks after your fertile period.

I so wish I'd known this as a teenager and therefore not having to worry about coming on unexpectedly at school.

Took the plunge and it my mooncup arrived this morning. Don't have a problem getting it in (though I thought I would when I looked at the awkward shape!), think getting it out might be a bit more of a challenge though. I found myself squeezing it and wriggling - which, if it had been full, might have been quite messy - any tips???
