I only spend about £2.00 a year on sanitary protection as it is, and at my age I'm really not considering long term investments! I quite fancy the injection, anything that makes The Curse disappear altogether (but not hysterectomy) gets my vote.

I do sometimes consider the eco-friendly reusable options but to date economy wins out and disposables it is.

To answer a few questions :

You can't have sex with the Mooncup in position, just as you can't have sex with a tampon in. However, in my opinion, the Mooncup has an unadvertised side benefit of working to prevent the "all day drip effect" after morning sex!

You clean the Moon cup by washing/wiping (i.e with a wet wipe) it out each time you empty it & boiling it for a couple of minutes between periods. I used to pop mine in a designted tupperware box in the microwave, bring to boil & let sit for about 5 minutes.

I honestly only found it "icky" whilst I was getting used to it, now I really don't but that could be something to do with learing how to get it out smoothly!

    Hi
I've been using a Mooncup for only a few months, but am so pleased with it. I wish I had known about it years ago. It would have saved me a fortune. I aslo was having problems with allergic reactions to towels & tampons. But this is brill, no more leaks & does not need changing as often. I was a bit squeamish at first but now no probs (although plenty of jokes off hubby):)
Love to save & love a bargain

I bought the mooncup, but each month i used it it made me sore and gave me an infection. My periods are quite heavy too and i was having to empty it every couple of hours peak flow. I couldnt change it in a public loo as i needed to wash my hands immediately after changing it cause of the mess. I had to wear pads also during the night. Mine went in the bin.

I used to have really heavy periods until I was fitted with a Mirena coil which has a small amount of progesteron in it. After fitting the bleeding rapidly diminishes until it stops,no more periods, until you have it removed. I was in the first trial of this device about 7 years ago and recently had my 2nd one fitted. They are used in Sweden in place of a hysterectomy if the woman has fibriods. So excellent but I had to press for it as they are v expensive for the NHS (more that £100 I'm told).

This one should see me out now as I'm 48!!!

after reading this i am also glad i have the (dreaded) injection. I'm sure it works ok for some women just like some people dont like tampons but when the first person mentioned it my first reaction was yeuch. I can see the point in it i just dont think i'll be trying it personally.
Other women want a boob job. Honey the only silicone i'm interested in is on a 12 cup muffin tray, preferably shaped like little hearts
