Awwww hun, we all fall off the wagon every now and again (although the last time, I spent a £200+) the key is, like you say, to get straight back up and keep going. Just think of how proud you should be that you've gone from spending whenever you wanted to, to being careful for 3.5months before having a blip! That is fantastic and you can't ignore how proud you should be of that. :A

p.s. just having a look for the BBC article, thanks hun xxx

Thanks very much for the support :T - it means a lot to have that especially when you are struggling. Glad your dating is going well so far :).

Mrs ATS, oh how many times have I fallen off the wagon? "ooh that's pretty"...."ooh I like that"...."oooh that would look nice xyz" etc etc. We fall off, but we get back on again, we're all dealing with our debts and if it takes us a day longer because we bought a chocolate bar to cheer ourselves up then so be it. I'd rather have the chocolate bar than feel miserable :) because I know that I'm less in debt now, than before I had my LBM :D

Morning all hope everyone is doing well. I had a rough evening yesterday feeling really lonely having to do everything but something really nice happened, I found out I won a pair of tickets to see New Kids on the Block and Backstreet Boys on Thursday night :D the first thing I did was phone my Mam to tell her she's coming with me :)

The other nice thing was my brother actually phoned me and talked to me about how my OH is and how I'm coping which wasn't great at the time so that helped loads.

Thank you universe for knowing I was so lonely and helping out. As BT used to say, it's good to talk.

Should really get to work early as I need to leave early for dentists at 4.45 blurgh.

Edit: does anyone have any advice on the best way to prove a sick note was handed in? We haven't handed in OHs current one yet as I haven't had time to either drive into the town centre and drop it off or to post it in. Last time he posted one in they said it never arrived but magically knew what was written on it. We don't really trust his work place. They haven't even managed to change his address yet and we've been moved a month today.

I just want to post it by special delivery but he wants me to take it in.

Well I fell off the wagon (moneywise) yesterday and spent £50 on complete carp that I don't need and can't afford (can't take it back as already using it). This comes after several months of stress about DH's job and him overspending two months in a row - so obviously so-called 'comfort spending'. Like that's going to help the situation . In my defence, hey wait, I have no defence - it's just complete madness .

    .

If it's any consolation I bought not one, but TWO Kipling bags AND a purse this month. Just because I fancied it. (They weren't full price thankfully) I didn't even need them. And now we have no money for food. I am so stupid sometimes, but sometimes I just get in a grip of a fever for spending, especially when I haven't bought anything for ages.

Edit: Perhaps i need to allow myself a "pretty things" amount in the budget that I can save up for things like handbags and shoes?

Dont beat yourself up, this is a learning curve, you cant expect to completely wipe out an adicting habit (and shopping is addictive) in one go, if your mate gave up smoking and after 3 months had a crafty one, you'd be impressed they went cold turkey for so long and firmly believe it was a stumble on their journey.

3 1/2 months is a long time to not buy ANY carp, and if your blip strengthens your resolve for the next 3 1/2 months well then its saved you money in the long run as thats 3 blips in 1 year rather than 52 (based on one shopping day a week ;)) I think everyone should have a litle 'emergency entertainment fund' (mine will be created next year) for that day when they are so fed up that nothing but a little shopping trip will do.

Internet dating seems to be going quite well, this guy seems really nice although I may be freaking him out with my "out there" questions such as what is your favourite fish! :rotfl: To be fair he asked me: jeans or skirt, I told him I would definitely prefer it if he wore jeans...:rotfl: He may run for the hills!!!! xxx

Oooo glad the datings going well, but dont rule out a bloke in a skirt too soon Jemma . . . theres something quite sexy about a bloke in a kilt . . . . :rotfl:

This, everyone should have one. It is part of my plan for next year, there will be a holiday fund, monthly 'our own' money for me and DH, and a monthly 'going out as a family' fund for a fancy it shop, or meal out or trip to a zoo etc.

It will happen, though DH laughed when I said about us each having a pocket money fund and asked whatid spend it on and i said 'i'd save it' :o

Hi all, for once not just here for the gossip! Have got a repayment to report so am now #319 £3109.95/£6109.94 which puts me 1p over 50% :j:j

This does mean that for the next week we have no money but it has just given me the most huge feeling of satisfaction it's worth it!

Mrs A,what about putting a few quid away each week into a treat fund? God knows we can't be good all the time. How dull would that be?

Kerri, f-bombs are what bad people like me constantly drop in conversation. Complete overuse of the f word. I blame my convent school upbringing!:D

  • Good Morning everyone! Happy Friday

No payments to report yet but spent last night sorting my weekends plan of action, which is:

Change all copper in Tesco - I have a giant piggy bank thats been full for a while and i expect there to be around £40 in there. Does anyone know if the CoinStar machines take a percentage?

Sell old TV at Cash Converters - Bought a new one a few months ago so this has been gathering dust in the spare room. Its a small philips flat screen so hopefully get an ok amount...we will see.

Get an old phone ready to be sent off for recycling - website says i should get £90 and also have an old laptop to box ready to be sent for recycling, been quoted £55 for this.

Then off to the bank to pay all this off the credit card along with £100 from the DH overtime money. Cant wait to check in and say how much has been paid off (how sad am i lol).
    Money Owed: £431 OD, £2,870 CC, £486 CC, £2,025 Loan = £5,812 :o£514/£5812

Coinstar do take a percent, one of the best tips I heard was to pay for your shopping on the self service till and tip it all in there. Gets rid of your change and pays for your shopping out of it win/win :)

Well done on sorting things :)

  • Well, I am not going to even pay off half of my 19 odd grand... as my car needs another £800 spending on it. It had £500 worth 5 weeks ago............gutted. So I am now ebaying like mad as I have decided to trade it in... rather than pay more money on it.

Trying hard............my car is now 12 years old. I spent 500 last year on the mot and 200 since christmas. The MOT is due in 2 weeks so I have decided if it fails and the price of fixing it is past X amount (that figure still to be determined :rotfl::rotfl:) then it's car heaven for my geraldine  I feel your pain :(

My aunt and uncle once lent me £2k to buy a car, think it was about 5 years old at the time. I had to scrap it 6 months later as I couldn't justify the repair costs.... a new power steering big within a month, £300 on brakes, then free repairs cos they were broken parts, then £5-600 on passing MOT. I just couldn't keep it going. My next car however has lasted 3 years so far with not a lot wrong, fingers crossed. I feel your pains, but sometimes we have to just say enough is enough :(
