SpagBol- Thanks!! I can see that support is one of the big players on here already and can't wait to have a bit more to report. Think I'll have to take a few days to get my head around all the advice already on the thread tho!!
Canucksfan- Thanks- I'm feeling welcome already!! And I definitely agree about the off button- it would have been very handy today while I was stood in town with DD having a tantrum!! I worried about the terrible twos, but they were nothing compared to the fearsome fours!! lolOUT OF DEBT since 05/05/13!!!! Whoop Whoop!!! :T
Goals = Learn to live a happy, frugal life / Offer accepted.....fingers crossed Feb 2014:j0 -
Glad to hear the doctors are happy with your results, Jemma
Thank you Superheavy and nctmum I'm not entirely sure what I will do yet. Maybe teach (secondary school maths: something I always wanted to do but not feasible beacuse of the debts) but I'm very aware that it's a stressful job and wondering if I should set my sights a bit lower :rotfl:
Great news - if you can figure out how you got him there, please share!! I'm sure my OH is getting worse (I'm hoping that it's because I'm getting better and it seems worse relatively)
Well - it's taken me a long time ! Our situation over the last few months has got worse and worse (we're now £400 worse off a month re DH's job change) and it got to the stage where we were right up to our overdraft limit and still had to buy food and petrol for 3 weeks of the month. At this stage, I reminded DH how bad things were (he buries his head in the sand), and he suddenly said he was going to leave his Visa card at home on top of the kitchen units :rotfl:. He comfort spends - when things get really bad - which was making a bad situation even worse.
Anyway on Friday he said he needed petrol and should he put it on Visa? - knowing that Friday is his downfall day for spending as he finishes an hour earlier and the shops are still open - I said 'no' - put it on Switch and I'll sort it. There's no way I was going to take the risk of him having his Visa card and I knew we just had enough for a bit of petrol out of our current a/c.
It's not that I'm an angel - over the summer hols when I was feeling down I had a spending spree too cos I felt like what's the point of all this scrimping when he's just having what he wants all the time. But he's much worse than me - when I spend it might be about £50 and a one-off spend (still bad I know) - with him it can be £150regularly.
Phew - this is a long post - sorry. Good luck with your DH - it's frustrating when you've made the decision to change and make things better and they don't change .
Hi Everybody,
Thanks to SpagBol, Mrs Addicted to Spending, jakes-mum, lemonpopsicle, kerri-dfw, Linzight, mum of 2 plus oh, psychopathbabble and mf0u1098 for your good wishes and kind words. Daughter and Grandson finally came home on Tuesday, 3 weeks and a day after he was born. It's great that they are now so close, I can drop by for a cuddle on my way home from work :smileyhea
On the debt thrashing front, I still haven't made any additional payments so the only thing to belatedly report is the usual Santander dd payment at the beginning of the month. Fingers crossed that when I do finally get chance to sit down and look through the finances that there's a nice little chunk sitting waiting to be allocated to Bank of Mum & Dad, one good thing about being really busy is that I'm also too busy spend it
#65 4396.32 / 11616.56 = 37.85%
So glad to hear your daughter and grandson are home and doing well :j!Canucksfan wrote: »Blimey O'Riley...cold baths, quads that kill, heat exhaustion, HALF MARATHONS...I feel like I am on a parallel universe. You girls are tough stuff-wish I could join in the chat, but um I can't. Youse could give the Marines a run for their money, as they run into gas filled rooms as a fun training exercise!!!
Jemma-you look fab...the piccie on your Avatar makes me think that you need a good steak dinner (a 24oz steak at least) - I used to be that sylph-like ...when I was 11 years old!
Fallenwiccan-I really admire how upbeat and organised you are in the face of your DH's redundancy. The hammer has dropped at my DH's job too-he is out at the end of Nov...just as I start Mat Leave and I'm not feeling v brave tbh. I'm trying to squirrel away some money for the mortgage/Emergency Fund etc...it is such a pain not having any money!
So sorry to hear this and such bad timing too - I hope he manages to find something else (either there or in the UK).

I hate the 2 weeks before payday, all the DDs have gone out, our 3 paydays are done for the month and I've run out of money to OP. I've got 4 items finishing on ebay and they are up to £13 so can OP a bit but even so I'm feeling really impatient. I will put more stuff on ebay today, must make enough to buy DS2 a DSlite for his birthday next month.
I've had a really spendy weekendWe took DS for an appointment (£70) then had a pizza in a restaurant because it was getting late (£45- no vouchers as didn't think ahead ) and I bought them bunk beds because one of my boys has been on a mattress on the floor for over a year
which was £300 but got a lovely sturdy wooden one with 2 silentnight mattresses, used a code and got nectar points so not all bad :T

As some of you may know, I've been trying to up my exercise and have been plagued with problems. My blood tests came back satisfactory so I put it down to dehydration and started upping my water intake before, during and after the gym plus taking electrolyte drinks. Anyway, last night I went back to the gym for the first time in over a week and it felt good to be back. I felt strong but took it easy and my heart rate was only 127bmp which is about 55-60% capacity. I did 8k on the bike slowly then 2k on the rowing machine. I was really chuffed with myself and thought I had turned a corner! We then went back on the bikes for another 8k but partway through I looked over at some people doing floor work with a medicine ball. I looked back at the screen on my bike and went completely dizzy. This wasn't just light headed, this was whole world spinning ant it wasn't stopping. I thought I was going to have to sit on the floor in the gym but luckily I made it to the changing rooms with my friend and it took ages before I could lift my head up. I drove home about 20mins later which I felt it was safe, feeling incredibly hacked off!!!!! I had a bit of a runny nose and sinus pain on Mon and Tues so took Sudafed tablets and it seemed to have gone. I'm wondering if it's still lingering a bit??? I'm just so sick of not being able to train...
Isn't annoying when you've got the drive to do something but you can't cos something you can't control is stopping you?! I guess this is like your experiences with the OH when they haven't had their LBM and seem to be sabotaging all your good work.
On a more positive note, I'm going on holiday to the Lakes on Saturday and I can't wait. I've been counting down the days till I get a break from work as it's been non stop for too long....!

100 days till Christmas? I better get my curmudgeonly attitude to Christmas ready once again....
Should be a better one without all the debts meaning I have to be rather stingy with my gifts, and that is one thing I couldn't have done without the support of you guys on here.
Chin up and on to the finish now, and then to start joining the savers on here!DFW - DEBT FREEEEEE!
