Dealing with the possibility of not reaching 100% by Xmas.

How are people going to deal with this? I'm trying not to see it as a failure if I don't quite get there as I will be almost there hopefully at any rate.

I'm not going to get their either. But I see it that if I hadn't joined this challenge, I would probably be in more debt now than I was when I started. If not, I would have continued making token payments here and there but would certainly not be so far down the path of debt-busting that I am now. I'm on track to be clear by Easter, which is over 3 years sooner than if I hadn't been given this push. :D

For that, I can't call myself a failure and I'm sure that if you look at your situation in the same light, nor can you.

The fact that we have all made steps to start clearing the debts is one that should be celebrated. Imagine where each one of us would be had we not decided to get rid of the debts!

I won't be debt free by Christmas either but I will be debt free a lot sooner than if I had not found this site and this challenge. And I WILL keep reminding myself of that

Long time no speak - but been reading along most days!
Bit of an updte of whats been happening -

I have recently had my ex removed from mortgage and deeds - transfer of equity completed so house is all in one name = massive stress removed! All went through ok! Had to pay out some money to her (£1700) which while I am happy to get the house in my name - is not very good for the debt busting!

I need to start paying my Dad back for the money he lent for a car. It's £100 a month that's agreed but I cannot put this off any longer!

Debt busting has been poor at best. Some additions and minimal payments over the last few months. Thankfully it has not got out of control!!

    So: 010 :j rjh35 £7,540/ £15,461.76

I have been getting finances in order to date and managed to get my credit cards sorted (in terms of balance transfers and interest rates). Need to clear my barclaycard with a £450 balance asap as paying interest on that. Hopefully get this done with Septembers wage. My bank of scotland stands at £1000 and 0% runs out in November- need to pay this off before then but it's likely to be done in end of December. The majority (£6090) is now on a fluid credit card at 0% until December 2013.

I have now accepted that I won't be debt free by this crhistmas unfortunately! My new target is now December 2013 when the 0% runs out on my Fluid credit card.

I feel a lot more relaxed by this! While I am still keen to get this cleared, I think my whole mind set has changed, and the hard work, saving, ebaying is just second nature now. Paying off the odd pound here and there is happening, and it will, in time, sort itself out. I guess that's what this journey so far has given me!

Thank you all for the inspiration of reading all your posts!

You're all doing really well. And the main point about these challenges is to get one's mind focused on the debt busting. No one is a failure by not meeting a target of say, DF before Xmas because you've taken the steps to lower the debt and pay it off as fast as you can. Do not feel bad about it, you're all doing well!

I'm helping BF to get rid of his debts now. He applied for Fluid but wasn't accepted but I was so that's £2600 off his debts on 0%. Feels nice to do something for him in return as he's helped me loads as he's got a better job and salary.
    DEBT FREE OCTOBER 2012!
Proud to have dealt with my debts!

  • Hey all

Just wanted to echo the sentiment that this really is a state of mind and not so much about the deadline by which to pay off debt. It takes a while for that realisation that you have to change to hit properly, but when it does, that's what counts. Targets help to keep us on track, but ultimately the change of mindset is allowing us to think differently and that's what's going to get this collective debt busted!

    Have a lovely evening all!

A little bit of good news about DS1 GCSE Biology exam result. The school had his coursework remarked and in addition to the 6 marks they 'forgot' to award he also got an additional 10 taking his coursework from a D to a B, and his final GCSE to a solid A :j Soooo chuffed for him, also chuffed that we didn't have to pay the £150 for a coursework remark :money:
