    So close Lemonpop!! :T

So...inspired by afordmylife...what are we all doing for MSE xmas presents? :money: Our budget for each other and both kids is £200. That's all stockings etc. too. We have 15 other presents to buy just with parents, siblings and grandparents and I'd like to keep that to a minimum, I was thinking of hitting the £ shop and making stuff to do hampers but some inspiration would be good...especially for mens bits!!

I've bought my cards and some stocking bits already :T

I'm trying to persuade Mr S to avoid gifts for each other altogether as we have booked a night at the Christmas markets in Dusseldorf and we are trying to go away in February too! He is having none of it though and is still insisting on small gifts for each other.... we tried this for our birthdays, agreed a £50 budget and he spent about £300!

  • Hello.

Still avidly reading everyday I just don't have anything constructive to post apart from that I have a new job! My current one is stressing me out big time and a lot of the time I don't have anything to do but it's sole destroying being bored a work isn't? :(

Anyhoo, new job is a lot better pay, i know when i'll be working (week on/week off), it's close to my friends as well and not so much of a commute from my base (60 miles instead of 110 - one way )

This should hopefully mean I can save faster to do some F&fs on my debts next year so I hope those who don't make it next year can have a pay off as much as you can in 2013!

I can only echo what others have said and comment that if Jemma had not come up with this thread I would half heartedly still be paying my debts off today! :j
    In debt no more!
  • loubie lou my job is so stressful too cos i have NOTHING to do. i cant stand doing nothing its so boring.

good luck with the new one.

  • Dealing with the possibility of not reaching 100% by Xmas.

How are people going to deal with this? I'm trying not to see it as a failure if I don't quite get there as I will be almost there hopefully at any rate.

    Hi SeriousDFW,

I know I'm only a newbie and maybe a little too over excited by this challenge, but stay positive!! As I've been reminded so many times today there are 99 days left until Christmas- let's try super hard to throw every penny we find at these debts in that time!! After all, a runner tries hardest the closer they are to the finish line :)

  • Loubie lou - congrats on your new job!

Serious DFW - with my DH's job change there is now no way we'll be able to pay off our debts by xmas. At first I got really down about it as in our original plans, it would have been gone by then. But now I've just accepted that it won't happen. We've got a loan that finishes in Dec and so from Jan I can chuck the money we're paying for that towards our CCs/OD and pay it off during next year.

  • Miss Frugal - Thanks - you're right and I am going to get focused and really give the next few months a final push. I'm going to put a pile of ebayable things tomorrow as a start! I'm hoping with that and a bit of Quidco money coming our way, we might just make it.

Mrs Addicted - I can understand your frustration but I guess when things like job changes happen, you just have to readjust and keep going. Life does throw changes at us. However, you have a very justifiable reason to not make it. If I don't make it, it will be purely down to not working at it hard enough, which is why I think I will be a bit disappointed in myself. However, I keep thinking, if I'm sat around on Christmas day knowing I've got £500 in debts, it's a long way better than last Christmas when I was sitting on over £10k. I think I need perspective.

I just feel bad because there are so many on here who have worked so phenomenally hard to get rid of their debts, and I could have done so much more.

  • Last night I had my little moment of what am I doing. Now that I'm sure I'll be debt free I've started freelancing again so I can save up for what looks like being an expensive 2013.

The freelance work I do involves writing articles, one of which was on top tips to make money by selling what you already have. Which I wrote while sitting in a spare room full of stuff. Definitely got to take advantage of the next free listing weekend and clear some clutter.

Keep plugging away at those debts guys, mine took nearly two years to actually deal with, and the finish line is so tantalisingly close now. It is definitely worth the effort.
    DFW - DEBT FREEEEEE!

    Total - 10762/10762 :)

Every silver lining has its cloud.
