The "Pay ALL your debt off by Xmas 2012" challenge - PART 3!!!

Evening everyone!
Had a lovely afternoon at the beach! And it got us thinking we would be crazy to spend £2k on a holiday when 1. we can't really afford it 2. we'd rather pay that money off our debts 3. we only live 10 miles from the beach so why would we pay £2k to go to another one? 4. If we're only going to the beach on holiday and cooking ourselves, what's the difference?
Ok the weather isn't as good or guaranteed, but at least it won't be too hot. PLUS we can split the holiday up and maybe book into a hotel somewhere for a night or two for a change of scenery.
I can't see us spending anywhere near £2k doing it this way and we can always go on holiday abroad when the debts paid off and the kids are older.
Hi choclover, we have holidayed in this country for the last few years for this reason and have always had ok weather. Even if it's raining it's rarely raining solidly for a week in the summer hols (tempting fate there :rotfl:). Even though we don't live close to the beach we camp or borrow a caravan near the seaside and love it. We still rarely eat out to save wonga although do treat ourselves a bit and in any case campfire cooking is funYou should set yourself a challenge like only use the BBQ to cook for a week or pitch a tent in the garden on your staycation

Forgive me DFBX-ers, for I have sinned.
I booked a holiday.
I know, I know, but not having one this Summer has made me so depressed (hubby on leave ban cause of stupid Olympics) that the thought of not getting some sun next Summer either was just awful.
However we've not booked the original £5K all inclusive jaunt I was wanting, we're driving to Spain and staying self catering in a caravan in Summer 2013.This won't affect our DF date, it just means it won't come any further forward for now. I'll try and do a few extra shifts to help out in the meantime too, honest!
I shall do penance and only eat cardboard for a week, or something.Long haul supporter #290POAYDBX2014 #043LBM Dec 2011 Debt £51K Debt Nov 2014 £42K0 -
His Missus – I agree buses are expensive, it costs me £3.80 to get to town and back which I think is ridiculous – for our family it would cost over £10 – how is that supposed to encourage us to use them?
Cj75 – welcome back – glad you are better now and well done on weight loss!
Kerfuffle – at least that 1 loan has nearly gone!
Dd1981 – good luck with the last minute wedding preps.
Choclover – that’s what we’re doing this year – we can’t justify a holiday this year so we’re having mini trips instead. It'll probably be much easier for you with a tiny baby as well.
Recurrent- Ostrich – at least you’ve economised on the cost of the holiday. Promise me you won’t eat cardboard tho’ :rotfl:.
Well I booked our 2 mini trips last night. We're having 2 days in Bath on first week of Summer hols and 2 days in London during last week of hols. Total = £150 including train to London, which we have saved in our 'pots' account for our holiday this year. Luckily my parents have given us £100 which we can use for expenses while we're away, £20 of which was supposed to be holiday money for our 2 DSs but they said they would rather this was used to see Stonehenge - lol. My DH spends £60 a week on petrol usually getting to work so we'll have that as well and then we just need to eat cheaply while we're there. I'm actually really excited even tho it's not much :j.Pay debt in 2012 #278 £2347/£5364

Morning all!
recurrent ostrich - we all need something to forward to.
kerfuffle - bus fares round here are loopy. Driver said a return would cost me £6 but an all day rider would cost £4. Why have a £6 ticket in the first place?
Mrs AtS - small breaks are sometimes just as fun as long holiday, enjoy!0 -
