Got into a bit of trouble over the weekend. I got so over excited and carried away with extreme couponing that I spent £120 at the supermarkets. At MrTs I spent £56 but on the plus side I did save £36 and it was mostly on washing powder and kitchen cleaning stuff so I have a small stockpile now. But it means I only have £27.45 to last until pay day, which is next Friday.
Got plenty of food in so that shouldn't be a problem but DH does spend around £7.50 per day on cigarettes, what can I do???
Love the concept of extreme couponing
If it were my DH I would (and do) take away his card and cash and give him some chewing gum for the cravings lol £7.50 a day is extreme...can he switch to roll ups? They are much better and cheaper just a bit of a faff.DMP started Oct '17: £79,974 :eek::eek::eek::eek:0 -

Loving your extreme couponingI get so jealous watching the americans on TV, have told DH if we ever go over the first thing I will be doing is obtaining coupons just to have a go :rotfl:
Dont suppose he's ever made noises to quit? Maybe time for a frank discussion that its time to start cutting down as you cant afford to maintain his habit anymore due to the ever increasing price (had to do this with DH, and then start pushing for giving up completelyHe is currently smoke free, we do have occasonal slips but still a darned sight cheaper than him smoking everyday :T)
Oooo also maybe mention about New Zealand thinking of charging £50 a pack! and what would he do if the UK decide to bring in the same rulebest to start trying to control it while h can afford to have the odd slip than wait for the government to introduce the idea and he has to go cold turkey

Hello all!
:oOh dear, oh dear, oh dear!:o I spend a few days away from MSE and my spending goes haywire!:(
Firstly, we've booked a cruise for Sept 2013. We said we'd do one for our 40ths next summer and was only really looking into it but... DH saw one that looked really good and went to all the places he wanted to see and they were doing an early bird discount (15% which would save us £650) so we booked there and then! I was pleased we could afford the deposit though
But we now have another £3000+ of debtNot going to count it as part of this challenge as it's joint debt but will add to my signature so I don't forget it's there.
Then we booked to go away for a week this September - staycation as they're now called - used to be a holiday in England once upon a time. SO... that's another £400 to find:o
Then we went away this weekend and I ended up buying some clothes and putting them on the CCwhich means next month I'll probably only be able to afford to pay the interest and the purcheases I've put on so I won't really be getting anywhere with it for another month
On a plus side, we went to Mr A's with the intention of doing a £10 mini-shop and actually spent £9.43 :T
Sorry this a long-winded post, just getting it all out.
Have a good day everyone xxx
PS Kerri I tried artichoke for the first time this week, does that count towards towards the try-something-new challenge :rotfl:0 -
Grr to the bank holiday processing times! I NEVER go over my overdraft and i did by 54p so am hoping there's no charge. Just annoyed i didnt check my account last night & realise same day
so many stupid things to buy this week and my ppal hasn't come through yet. Bad start to the day!
Is it worth ringing them today using your most apologetic voice? Would be awful to get charged for such a piddling amount.
I've also decided try payment a week by rounding down the bank account to nearest £5, but only started this last week so will see how it goes.
Watch out, it gets really addictive! Now it's the first thing I do when i come downstairs in the morning! So here it is - my first update, just got £10 from topcashback, not alot i know but every little helps and all that, managed to just get a 0% balance transfer for 2 of the cards for 20 months so thats made me smile.

:j Well done on the first payment and welcome to the thread!:j
Ok, sit down everyone. . . today I opened an ISA and a new savings account. I have amazed even myself! It was a shock to find out that the savings account all my tax money is in was paying all of 0.5%,, cheeky bluggers.
The current account was looking a bittoday so a small payment of £1.08 bringing me too:

Well have activated DH's new balance transfer card so I can look at it online and have paid off the balance transfer fee which makes no difference to my total but makes me feel better as my figures are right (hate having my figures on my spreadsheet wrong but find it soooooooooo de-motivating to add money to the debt figure
)
Am off to the bank after lunch as the lovely DLA have paid in all my back pay :j :j so am going to remove it all as I know if I leave it there it will somehow *magically* disappear.
Building up for another *talk* (or lecture depending on how you look at it) with DH when he gets home as he seems to be getting a bit spend happy again, another £75 seems to have spent itself out of my account  on a game I dont play and a shop I dont shop at  OK he gave me £30 back toward 'the game' money, but does not seem to understand my annoyance when he tells me 'i'll pay you back' and only gives me back 2/3rds of what hes spent *rolls eyes*
Anyway, I think his card to my account will now be disappearing from his walletoh and he wont be told about the back pay either
. . ive suddenly completely forgotten all about it :rotfl:

Welcome to 1st timer
Er, well I obsessively check my current account every morningand round down the balance to the nearest £5 or £10 depending on how healthy it's looking. For example, if your balance is £143.50 you pay £3.50 to the debt, leaving a nice tidy £140 in your account.
I also check my credit card account every day (yes, I know, life required!) and it's so lovely seeing all those little credits!:D
Jakes-mum it's like they're children! good for you for taking the card off him. Honestly, show me a woman who would spend that much on a game when there's debt to be paid :rotfl::rotfl:.
As you can probably tell, I'm "working" from home today. I've just finished the initial stage of wording a new contract but have got down to the legal and regulatory bits. So off to take the dog for a walK!!Make £2020 in 2020 £178.81/£2020
