Enough is enough - the great declutter

My moses basket wasn't fit for sale (my three, plus niece, had used it), so it went on freecycle, but I will admit I kept the cover and hood - it's wrapped in tissue in my keepsakes box, and hopefully it'll be used by one of the boys when they have children.
As for our own declutter - did the boys wardrobes yesterday - they've been hubby's domain recently, and couldn't you tell, lol - loads of coathangers and very few clothes actually attached to any of them. But, we got there in the end, and created a bag for the charity shop in the process.
Today, between school runs, nursery runs, and two kids hairdresser appointments, we're working through the airing cupboard - a bigger job than it might sound - already have a black bag worth of old towels and pillowcases ready for freecycle, and we've only done the bottom half.DFW Nerd no. 884 - Proud to [strike]be dealing with[/strike] have dealt with my debts0 -
Tibbie's mum, if you're absolutely sure that's your last baby, then the stuff needs to go, you're doing the right thing clearing it out because 3 growing children there's only going to be more stuff coming in!
I held onto the baby stuff for about 5 years until I was as sure as I could be that my family was complete! I've kept very little except for photos. I've kept the pregnancy and home birth notes, first walking shoes, first birthday cards and I think that's all.
What about taking a picture of the moses basket etc, before it all goes?0 -

Mary43, two drawers cleared out is fantastic! If you don't fancy ebay what about a car boot sale? It sounds like you have quite a few little treasures that you could probably get some money for.
Don;t think I dare car boot stuff missyg..........lol I've been to car boots and seen people standing there while folk like me drift by...........that would be just my luck to come back with all the stuff I'd taken............I can't think that anyone would want to pay for my stuff even though I did.........lol
I'd rather give it away just to get rid quick.
I was pleased all the candle stuff went and the lad was thrilled to bits with them.
Chap on freecycle who said he wanted the stereo speakers hasn't been in contact again..........thats two so far that haven't bothered.
We do have an auction in town once a month so I suppose I could try there if only to get shot of the wretched things..............lol
No clearing out today..............went into town and did a bit more charity shopping for my christmas baskets so spare room is getting fuller by the day..............lolMary

My newly dyed towel, jeans and trousers have come out perfect.. no recycle pile for them..
The stardrops has rescued my stained sheets.. YAY!!!
I have 2 bins full of shredded papers
2 binbags gone to charity shop
1 carrier taken to nursery
2 carriers to recycle
1 binbag for the wheelie
AND.. the mobile phone I was going to ebay seems to have been sold to my sisters bf.. no listing fees!!! even better!!
I still have 9 non-payers on ebay which I am getting a bit twitchy about, though 1 has excellent feedback so I'm a bit concerned there..
2 carriers of stuff which I'm posting when I've collected at 3pm.
I've cleared loads of smellies out of the bathroom and loads of junk out of the cupboards under the sink.
Oh.. I just remembered I have a bag of baby bottles I can ebay..
AND... *drum roll*
I shredded my new replacement credit card without writing down the number and the pin went too!!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Miro, I'm sure I recognise your username, maybe from the ebay forum which I read quite a lot (but don't post much). Very happy to have such an experienced and successful ebayer here!
Four figures is brilliant!
Yep, I've been hanging around the ebay forum.....usually cos I've got meself into a pickle.... Currently trying to sort out my biggest sale yet, (in monetary terms), which has an uncleared paypal payment holding it up, (dratted e-cheques!)
Spent last night sorting through and listing on Auctiva some retro costume jewellery ready for the next ebay cheapo listing day. Not sure if it will sell so I might list a couple of items now just to 'test the water' as it were!
What I want to know is...why...when I keep trundling down to the Post Office with armfuls of stuff...are my cupboards as full as ever....I'm sure the junk-fairy restocks me overnight
A lovely Freecycler has just offered a load of used jiffy bags and bubblewrap...hope I'm lucky!0 -

That's what I've decided to do. I have a spare set of covers that I've never used so I'm going to swap them over and keep the others, they really do hold a lot of sentimental memories and I couldn't bear to part with them.
Thanks everyone for your replies, I'm going to make a concerted effort to list at least 10 baby items before the end of the day.0 -
I have about 200 water softener tablets (like those calgon things but sainsbugs own brand ones).. what shall I do with them????
freecycle? bin? charity shop? ... what? Anyone want them?? lol..
Miró .. mines the same.. I get rid of loads and loads and loads of stuff.. and the next day it is just as bad.. I think the stuff at the bottom of the mounds of junk is squashed flat and as we remove the top stuff the bottom stuff plumps back up again.. it has to.. I have a whole room and 2 sheds FULL.. literally to bursting with junk!!!LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
Well, instead of having loads to post all at once, my ebaying is in dribs and drabs, so I have auctions and buy it nows finishing over the week, I keep adding to them bit by bit, got another few sales overnight and have another £20ish . Yay!!! I know what you mean about the junk fairy Miro. I think she comes to my place. And she's definitely been in the attic!!!!! it's chocca!!! and I haven't bought any junk for a while so I can't understand it. lol. Well done Pigpen _ you're sickening, how do you manage to achieve so much with 4 times as many kids as me??? I struggle and I've only got 2. How on earth do you have so much energy!!!GE 36 *MFD may 2043

Pigpen, delighted it's going well today! :j I've used the "send invoice" function on ebay to remind the 3 buyers that I haven't heard from - I've put a small note thanking them for the purchase and to contact me if there are any questions or if they need any help.
I've been photographing the new stuff this morning. Little tip: I use my flatbed scanner to "photograph" a lot of smaller stuff. It doesn't have to be paper based or flat and it's quick!
Some of the CDs that didn't sell individually last time, I'm combining by Artist and selling as a "lot". Let's see if that works! My target is £75 this time, but it really could go either way.
Miro, I think Pigpen and I are both doing listings tomorrow. It's not a cheap listing day but by my reckoning, we're better off listing items that have a GOOD chance of selling before the new final value fees come in on the 20th. For "riskier" listings, maybe it's better to wait...0 -
What new final value fee please missyg?? Should I be worried? or chasing round like a blue ar*ed fly trying to get everything listed?GE 36 *MFD may 2043
