I think you'll do really well with that lot Nicki! Do you have a target in mind?

I have 18 things to list later but it's nothing exciting and half of it is relists that didn't sell last time. So I'm not too hopeful but anything is better than nothing in my book!

I'm probably going into town later, as son needs new school shoes and trainers. I'll declare anything else afterwards ;)

Not a target as such, but I'd like to be able to make my money back that I've spent :o The two lots of boots I'm listing are ones I've bought but don't fit well enough, and the large bundle of ladies clothes is a mixture of a bundle I got that doesn't fit/suit me and some bits I had in the house anyway, then the skirts are ones I bought that are massively too big on me :rotfl: I've spent £100 on ebay and I've come away with a new coat, about 6 tops which are more for going out than everyday, and two earcuffs  Waiting on a pair of boots I won on Tuesday to be delivered, and I won a pair of GHD straighteners yesterday (they were a bargain at £35!) :o

Although there are some Buffy boxsets I have my eye on :o:o I'm supposed to be decluttering but am just replacing stuff with a different type of clutter :o Must stop it NOW...

Well, my memory card reader has finally arrived so I can start uploading things ready to sell on Ebay in a few days' time. I've never sold anything before so I really don't know what would sell and what would be better off sending to a charity shop - would appreciate your thoughts:
    • Vintage handbag. Leather has come away v. slightly from seam in corner; not immediately noticable. Could be repaired by a local cobbler. Otherwise in good condition.
    • Mulberry mini rucksack. Needs a v. good clean by a professional leather person/cobbler, also has a deep crease across back due to way bag has been carried on one shoulder. Bit nervous about this one; could be a real bargain for someone willing to spend £15-£20 to get it tidied up (they cost £100's brand new) but what if someone doesn't read the description properly and complains about the condition.
    • 2 White Company cushions - bnwt. Presume these'll sell well?
    • A couple of old ballgowns, one unworn and the other only worn once. Does anyone actually buy ballgowns these days? Do I need to get them professionally pressed before sending them off to the purchaser?
    • Oriental bedspread. Reasonable condition; couple of minor marks on underlining - v. hard to spot. Would anyone buy secondhand bedding?
    • Two Laura Ashley pillowcases - v. good condition. Again, does anyone actually buy secondhand bedding?
    • Unopened box of miniature perfume bottles. Unwanted present a couple of years ago. Will it be ok to sell?
    • Hair straighteners - not GHD.
    • Couple of skirts - Phase 8, Laura Ashley etc. Hardly worn. How do I set a fair price?
    Thanks a million, guys.

Last night I went through all the photos I took during my first 2 years at Uni before I got my digital camera - was quite restrained really but have got them down by half and got rid of the 'rubbish' then did the same with some prints from digital ones from my 3rd year and put them all together in an album I was given as a present a few years ago and have made a really nice record and halved those photos. Got rid of a whole little albums worth last week too so doing well in that department

Missyg - yes hoping all the Lego will go well - he's bought enough bits and pieces on ebay in the past! It's all stuff he's bought reduced in places that he just bought because it was cheap and doesn't really have any interest in

Currently checking out a few possibles on ebay and think I've got 3 suits which will be worth listing 2 BNWT (one my mum bought me, one tescos 'gave' me with money off clothing vouchers last year so any money's a bonus)

Also a fleece which I'm going to sell through small ads at work - need to get that listed there.

empty purse.. As long as you attach photographs and put in the description truthfully what needs doing with these things they cannot complain..

perfume.. I sold some 4 year old aftershave last week the buyer was more than pleased with..

    white company stuff sells well.

Most stuff I start at 99p.. lower start prices mean more people look at the item so you have a better chance of it selling.. lets face it.. sitting in your cupboard it wouldn't have brought in a penny.. so does it matter if it doesn't fo for a lot of money?? More people looking at your item means it stands a better chance of going for a higher price too.. I've found stuff started at £3 with £1.50 postage hasn't sold but the same item listed at 99p with £3.50 postage has..

Be very careful not to leave yourself out of pocket.. with paypal fees and ebay fees and postage fees and packaging fees it is quite easy to not realise and leave yourself short.

If you can't justify the 72p recorded delivery make certain you get a proof of postage this covers you up to £36 in case it 'goes missing'.. which with some of the crooked buyers it is likely to.

I'm sorry if you know all this already but am sharing just in case you don't!!

    Good luck with your selling!!

Pigpen - I didn't know about the postage fees, Ebay fees etc so that's really useful. Is there a foolproof way of working it all out?

If you use turbolister it has a 'calculate fees' facility.. or of you list individually on site it tells you just before you submit the listings.. ebay also charge a commission on sold stuff.. and paypal fees are detailed on their site.

Only difference I can see at the minute is I can now hang stuff in the wardrobe and actually find it when I'm looking for it (when I was clearing out I found a jumper I'd been looking for all winter that was hidden under a pile of others.........lol)
Can now hang up shoe tidy in the cupboard (and its full of shoes.).......can hang up handbags as well so I know what Ive got............
Think I need to reorganise my bedroom so I can open both wardrobe doors properly - so I can see what is in there instead of just wearing the same few things.
So need to weed out and then get rid of chest of drawers, but giving up those drawers is a bit scary.
Oh and forgot to mention that electronic typewriter has been taken as well............at last !!!
Glad you finally found a home for it.

EmptyPurse - your best bet is to go into ebay and search for "completed items" similar to the ones you wish to list. Then you can see if they are likely to sell or not, though it can still be a lottery :)

I know someone who has sold a ballgown recently. I personally wouldn't go to the expense of having it pressed, especially as it will have to make a postal/courier journey. Point out any flaws and be brutally honest about the condition of any secondhand items, imagine yourself as a picky buyer :p

You can either set the minimum price you would be happy to receive for your items, or you could do a "buy it now" if you have a particular price in mind. Again, researching what had sold before can be helpful. Like Pigpen, I start most items at 99p unless they are clearly worth more. Good luck!

I have bought a jacket today guys so that's one item IN and nothing out :o - my new ebay target is to get as close as possible to the £30 I paid for the jacket! (Also bought son's new school shoes but the old ones will be leaving the house so that's evens!)
