Do you think empty tins would go on freecycle?? Roses/quality street tins etc?? I know they'll go in the recycling but do you think someone would actually have a use for them?

  • Worth a try Pigpen - I know any empty ones at my office are very popular!

Make good storage containers in sheds, garages etc - or for crafty / sticking supplies for littlies (or they do in my house!)

  • Hi You have all inspired me to have a big clear out. we want to move soon and the puppy keeps getting things cos we have so much stuff we dont have a place for everything. hopefully my sister in law is going to come with me to do a boot fair on sunday as she is pregnant and needs to get rid of some stuff to make room for new baby.
    Any advice would be great.

Oh lor...............builder just rang back.........he can come next week and start work !!!! That means I'd better de-clutter the 'building site' room a bit more as well as upstairs spare room !!!!!
Hopefully he'll be here when I'm at Mums otherwise I know what I'll be like.........following him around asking him what he''s doing and generally driving him bonkers....................lol
But oh the bliss of having a little room to house the boiler and freezer that doesn't resemble something thats a result of the Blitz !:j

Thought I'd join in, if you don't mind, as I really do need to declutter!

Have already listed a few books on Amazon but not had much luck: only sold two so far. Has anyone else had any success selling books via Amazon? Or is there somewhere else that I should try?

Also have a small bag of stuff to sell on Ebay but need to buy memory reader for digital camera before I can actually upload anything. Why, oh why, is life never simple?

The main nightmare will be sorting out all the paperwork that seems to have accumlated behind my back. Is it me or does it breed when my back's turned? I have drawers and drawers and drawers full of the stuff. Anyone have any idea how long I should keep old electricity bills, phone bill etc? I know bank statements need to be kept for seven years but I'm not too sure about the rest. I have stuff going back to a flat I lived in nearly 10 years ago - 10 years and at least three moves since then!

Another massive job will be tackling the junk in the loft. Even though I live in rented accommodation I have access to the loft and seem to have put all sorts of stuff up there 'by accident'. In fact I'm not even sure what's up there. Aaagh!!! Might save that until Saturday and then go up with the radio and a flask (if I can ever find the flask that is........)
I keep bills for a couple of years then bin them you dont need to have old bills going back 10 years

ok.. bullet bit.. my knitting books are on ebay.. or rather they will be come Thursday.. I haven't done any proper knitting in years so they can go.. gone!!

I have online billing so all my bills are online up to several years back.. failing that scan them and keep a copy in a fike on the pc and shred the paper copy... you don't need it!!

Ebay up to £8.11... :D.. I sense a bidding war coming on!
