Enough is enough - the great declutter

I've just got visions now of all these decluttered homes running through my mind. Zen-like empty spaces....empty shelves...empty cupboards......and one carefully chosen flower or candle sitting on a low table.
Bring on the soft music and joss sticks and we're sorted.....all together now...."Ommmmmmmmmmmmmmmmmm":D0 -
11 large cardboard boxes being collected from a fellow recycler today, I'll be able to get into the garage yippee, and saving land fill. Have started sorting out boxes in the attic and found DD's school uniform. She's 25 now !!:eek:0

When I sorted my wardrobe, I found DSs scout uniform from when he was about 10, and he's 30 this year  I'm ashamed to say I have kept it, there really is no hope for meYou're only young once, but you can be immature forever0 -

Are you hoping he'll still be able to wear it??!!;)
Well it's sentimental I think you're allowed to keep it!!0 -

Do you never stop????????
... no.. I can't afford to.. if I stop they all have massive growth spurts and we hit christmas and we disappear under a mountain of goodness knows what until I start again.
The lady from freecycle eventually turned up yesterday and was lovely.. so she is forgiven lol.. I am so fickle!
I went to the charity shop today.. and bought 3 shirts for hubby, 3 tops for DD1 (1 doesn't fit so will be ebayed) a balu top for DD2 and a pair of trousers for DD5... that is my confession.. so.. I now have to find a binbag of stuff to take them back!.. yeah.. fling!! I am halfway up one bag.
My kitchen cupboards are streamlined.. but there is a work surface that is a dumping ground.. how do we stop using these places to dump everything??? I have my potato hopper up there.. but how can I stop stacking it with carp?!
Front room is streamlined... no dumping grounds but the children keep taking junk in there.
That leaves.. 5 bedrooms, 2 reception rooms and the shed to do!!
Will I EVER get through it all??LB moment 10/06 Debt Free date 6/6/14Hope to be debt free until the day I dieMortgage-free Wannabee (05/08/30)6/6/14 £72,454.65 (5.65% int.)08/12/2023 £33602.00 (4.81% int.)0 -
I was just about to sort out the PILES of baby clothes which no longer fit my 9 month old... and it made me all teary and emotional! I was going to sort it into piles to either keep in case we have a DD2 one day or give to friends or charity shop. In the end, I couldn't do it and shoved it all back in the wardrobe...
Is this normal?!!
What will I be like when she's 25 and I find her old school uniform!!!?0 -

Yes you are a normal Mum, What will you be like? emmm proberbly very tearful and wondering where the years went, It was my DDs last uniform and I remember the last day of her schooling, the kids had signed eachothers blouses and ties. When I found it, well I knew it was there coz I kept it, I had a few tears. Couldn't throw it so gave it to DD, she was thrilled that I had kept it.0 -
So much for the person who was going to collect 11 boxes today they asked me not to get rid of them as they need them for packing due to a move. This means another trip to the recycle. I went last week and could have taken them. Why are some people so inconsiderate, surely a call or an email is not asking to much. What a waste of my time.
Sorry for the rant but boy do I feel better.0 -
Well I have been reading this thread with interest and after my first week fly ladying I actually had spare time today rather than running round like a headless chicken tidying up.
Anyway, I started upstairs first and between my bedroom and my daughters both of which looked tidy on the surface I have got 3 bags of rubbish and 5 bags of clothes for the charity shop.
Feels so good having done it and will be sending hubby of tomorrow to the tip and the charity bins
Thanks everyone for inspiring me.Proud to be dealing with my debts - DFW No: 712
