    Hi Everyone :)

Good to see you've been having a good weekend, and no nasty surprises form the postman. I've been having an "Old-Style" weekend and cooking up a batch of food in my casserole dish (no slow cooker yet!) Managed to avoid Sainsbury's altogether, so yay!

Scared - I just spoke to DH about MBNA as our debt with them is his. He said that he's always found them to be really helpful, and not at all snotty or rude on the phone. Saying that, we are now paying them more pro-rata than anybody else, as the plan has worked out over the years that we could do that and avoid being passed to a 3rd party. I don't know if this helps at all :)

One we think we have noticed in our dealings with the creditors, and I don't know if anybody else has come across this, it seems to be that the less you owe, the harder they chase! For example, both DH and I have loans with Northern Rock, mine is about 8k, his is just over 30k. NR chase me every 5 month religiously for an updated budget statement. DH has sent a revised budget once! I owe Hellifax least of everyone, and they are a complete nightmare. I don't know if their thinking is, well, it's only a couple of grand, if we pressure them hard enough they'll find a way to get it. Definately bullying tactics, and so completely not fair! It could also be down to the fact that we're doing out DMP on our own, so they feel they can apply more pressure because they (and we) don't have to go through a third party.

Hope everyone has a good Monday, and the postman brings only nice things. :D

  • I'm not a happy bunny tonight - just glum no real reason other that feeling like a complete prat for getting myself to this point. Unhappy about Barnaby's post in the managed loan thread some people can be so patronising but then again perhaps I'm just being unnecessarily touchy. It does upset me when people imply we're trying to run away or not repay what we owe - I (all of us I know) have every intention of repaying. I know the banks have made a mint off me over the years!! Sorry rant over - fingers crossed for a good week for all of us. Heres hoping.

  • Hi All
I am contemplating doing a dmp myself due to me having
buried my head in the sand for so long, I have been robbing
peter to pay paul and I need to sort this out.
My income has dropped dramtically due to a longtern illness I
    have.
Has anyone done a dmp their selves, I have been on the cccs
site and I don't have enough money for them to help me.
So I hope you don't mind I will pop in now and again for some
advice and let you know how I am getting on.
    Best wishes

    Hi Aly, and welcome :)

I'm doing a DMP on my own (well with DH) and have had a fair amount of success with my creditors. We have used the National Debtline for advice, although they don't actually manage the plan for you as CCCS or Payplan would. Their website is http://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk and they have a lot of advice and documents, including a budget planner calculator, and sample letters to send to your creditors. Beware, I don't think their planner software works properly in terms of saving your planner, I've had to recreate mine in Excel, let me know if you'd like a copy, save you having to do it again!

Some creditors are a bit taken back that you're doing it on your own, and Hellifax in particular refused to take us because we haven't gone through a third party. We eventually managed to persuade them that the NDL advise meant we qualified, and we now have an agreement with them.

From what I've seen on these boards, it doesn't seem that you get any more hassle from creditors if you're on your own, but you do lack the safety net of being able to say "phone CCCS/Payplan" instead. My best advice would be to make sure you try to keep a cool head when talking to them, and just be firm when they try to make you pay more than you can afford.

I hope this helps, and let us know you get on :j

Hi Aly, start a new thread with your SOA (all the incomings and outgoings, plus all your debts and their APRs) and we can see if there's anyway we can cut it down so that you have enough for to do this on your own :)

Thank you Daisieblue for your reply - spoke to MBNA this morning I have £1000 with them but my DH has about £10K with them. THe guy siad that as they are an american company then they expect the debt to be cleared in 10 years but as I am only paying £5 towards it and my DH £15 then this is not enough and they will end up selling our debt onto a debt collection agency. He tried to get me to offer to pay more, but I explained that CCCS had worked out our budget and this is all we could afford at the moment as we have other debts. So I think we will just have to sit wait and see what happens there's notning else we can do as we have so many other creditors.

Had no other letters this morning which was rather nice.

    Have a good day everyone.

    Hello everyone

Just wanted to say congrats to everyone who has had some good news since I was last on this thread.

Also, with regard to pursuing bank charges whilst you're on a DMP with a creditor that you have current account and other debts with - I think there is almost certainly a risk that they will overturn the decision to freeze interest. At the end of the day, it's a gentlemen's agreement which they have the right to terminate without reason. I would work out if the charges come out less than the interest that I would pay for the term of the DMP - if so, I don't know if I would bother.

For all those feeling like I was last week, i.e. down, look outside - it's a beautiful day and each of us on this thread is one day closer to being debt-free!!
    I'm moving on up now,

    Hello everyone,

    welcome Aly,:hello:

sorry scared i haven't got any advice about MBNA.

I agree with lonely, the banks are only entering the Dmp agreement as a gentlemens agreement and they may get funny and change their minds about freezing interest etc. if you upset them so i'm not sure what i would do in that situation.

I absolutely agree with you lonely, last week I had days when i just sat and cried but it got better and i'm sure that in time we will all get there. The sky is blue and look how far we have come already in such a relatively short time.
I never thought I would be able to get out from underneath my debt, but now because of all the help, advice and support i've rec'd i can see an end,
its a long way off but we will all get there and that's what we have to hold on to!!!

    Well done us!!:T

    Hey guys

I have heard back form 3 of my 5 creditors and have been told taht they are accepting my DMP payments. These are HSBC, Capital one and MBNA.

Still waiting to hear from Egg and the Co-op.

I wonder if it was the page of prose that I sent out with my CCCS gumf to my creditors that did the trick. Basically I wrote an A4 length essay setting out who I am, why I am in debt and what I am doing about it. It seems to be working (Touch wood)
Proud to be dealing with my debts
