Hi Everyone! Can I barge in?

We have been doing our own DMP since June last year - maybe less of the we hubby goes to work and I open all the horrible letters. Before I set about it I changed my phone number and refuse to deal with companies except by letter.

My only sane lifeline up to recently and this board has been the National Debt Helpline. Originally I looked into one of those companies you see advertised but thought what the hell for the price of second class stamps and I am at home with the children I may as well do it myself!

Trouble is on here you see some wonderful results and I owe with hubby about 18k and the way things look without pay rises etc we look at reducing our debts by about 1k a year - but slow and steady wins the race and we know that the way to go in life for us now is save save save.

Can you get addicted to saving lol

As for the car thing, I've been on a downer all week, just trying to see if I fake about the positives, I'll start to believe it!!!

Takes over an hour to get to work (instead of 25 mins) takes an hour and a half to get home, let alone food shopping and all the other errands I run on a daily basis for me and OH and the kids.
working on clearing the clutterDo I want the stuff or the space?

    Hi guys,

I too am on a bit of a downer at the mo!

Trouble is I can't really put my finger on why!! All is going smoothly with the Dmp I'm just finding it really hard at the moment, can't seem to get motivated to do anything, got a pile of ironing that I just can't face, need to go shopping but can't work up the energy to do that either!! Pathetic aren't I.

    Hi All

I have been reading all the posts on the DFW forum and myself and my husband have finally decided to go down the DMP route.

My husband was made redundant in 2005 and has only just managed to secure employment. So stupidly over the last 18 months we have managed to get ourselves in more debt just trying to survive and finally in January 2007 we stopped being able to meet our minimum payments.

This whole site has been so helpful and we our now taking a deep breath and doing something about our debt.

I felt such a sense of relief once I had completed the debt remedy with CCCS, but now I am worrying again. What if my creditors don't accept the agreement? How many letters/phone calls am I going to receive? What if my employers find out?

Sorry for this lengthy post I feel the need to vent and you all seem so understanding. It's nice to feel support from people in a similar situation as you and to know your not alone!

PS How do I become an official member?

DMP plans can go fine but I think you are still allowed times of feeling a bit fed up. I mean even if all your companies eventually accept and hell they can drag their feet you still know at the back of your mind you owe it all.

To be honest the only time I feel motivated to iron is when the children are being really noisey and I look at hubby and say I must go and iron upstairs - lock myself away with a DVD and get some peace while ironing - hate the bloody job love the space sometimes!

    Keep your chin up

    Hiya Sweetie,

My debt increased for similar reasons. OH was self-employed and had no work for over a year so my CC's funded our food, petrol etc etc.

I'm just starting my DMP in May (this is the first month I haven't made full payments to my debts), so I know how you feel, but unfortunately can't give any advice yet!

I changed my phone number and it was free with BT - the national debt helpline who I used there guide and all there template letters, when I spoke with them and said I only corresponded by letter said it was the easiest way to do it, you have time to read what they put and are less likely to be pestered to pay more than you afford. You must stick to your offers that is rule number one!

    Good luck with it all

    Hi Sweety -Love the name!!

    You are very welcome here!!:D
It's all a bit frightening at first but hang in there, you have made an enormously brave step by posting here and trying to sort out your debts.
At first it may seem like it's all too much to cope with,I know thats how I felt.

I had my LBM and thought that I would never get out of the hole I had dug for myself but 3 months down the line the light at the end of my very long tunnel is definately getting brighter.

We are all here to support and give advice when we can so if there is anything you are worried about or unsure of just ask away!!
I'm sure someone else on this thread has faced the same thing and will be able to help!

Most of all stay strong and be proud of the fact that you have faced your debt and now taking positive steps to sort it out. Well Done !! :T
