Dulux non drip gloss paint- I am not not going mad after all!

Has anyone had any problems with Valspar Paint?
I had a Gloss paint mixed and my decorator painted all doors (6) and bannisters, dado rails and loft hatch. He was disgusted with the dragging of the second coat even though the first coat was given 24hrs to dry. Leaving brush drag marks which left the doors especially looking awful. I had him repaint all the doors in his own white oilbased paint. After 2 days the paint started peeling off the bannisters , it was just lifting like a plastic filmand coming off in strips. Money lost was Decorator at £100 per day. 3days.
I complained to Valspar at B & Q who promised to get back to me. After nearly 3 weeks I again had to go to the store to find out what was going on where the rep. told me there had been a problem. Long story short. Customer service guy said as compensation they would allow me paint to finish painting my house, which was 3 bedrooms still to do. On trying to get this paint I was told only 3 pots were allowed, even though I needed 5.0 -

I have used this e-mail address:
trimtechnicaladvice@akzonobel.com but you might be best to call them on 08444 817 818 as they will give you a claim number over the phone - expect to be on hold for a while though!0 -
Still not resolved...
Was offered:
-Decorative Paints Voucher for 3x2.5L of our Dulux Quick Drying Gloss
-4x500ML of Polycell Liquid Sanding
-2x5L of Dulux Endurance Matt
-Cheque for £50.00 as goodwill gesture
Declined all these products and the cheque saying it would come no where near the amount needed to re-do the work and products are no use to me (go onto the b&q website and see the reviews for their 'new and improved' quick drying gloss)
Have now been emailed again offered all the above but they have increased the cheque to £110?!
What is the logic in that?
Have explained don't want any of their products for my newly decorated flat - purelly want the money to re-do the gloss work, and to pay for the actual gloss paint.
What an awful company... their customer service is awful, they take weeks to get back to you by phone or email... and are just rubbish.. Obviously couldn't care less about loosing customers...
Anyone else had much luck? x

I am having the same problem on a massive scale. 3 staircases, 4 bathrooms, bedrooms, a dozen or so doors. My painters have indicated around £4 to £5k to put right. Their latest offer is now £360.
Has anyone taken them to small claims court yet? I would be interested to hear how they did.
Their customer care is shocking. I have to chase and chase. I have sent them receipts, bar codes, scrapings and photos so they can see the extent of the mess... oh and the paint on the radiators is now bubbling.0 -
Hi Sunfold
Small Claims court is definately the way forward. I am a painter and decorator by trade and all the major paint companies were aware of this problem back in 2010.
The problem is (not going into great detail), the VOC European rules and so effects the topcoat oil based products (not emulsions as far as I am aware). The way forward is the water based products
They still launched their products (both trade and diy) and were aware of the potential problems. I have heard of some other trades people who have had successful claims with the companies (I don't want to single any companies out) and not had to go to the actual stage of court.
You do need original receipts of the paint purchased and used, photographs of the woodwork painted (rads yellow anyway if you don't use a product specifically made for painting them).
Contact the company and send the paperwork in with a letter stating the product was not fit for purpose as per the Sale of Goods Act and advising if you do not receive full settlement you will be seeking redress through the small claims court.
I'm not sure how you will go about claiming for your own time as a diyer, but worth asking for a contribution.
Hope this helps and good luck !0 -
I complained to Dulux on the 2nd June and sent a chaser email on 11th June. To be honest I have serious health problems and was just going to let the matter drop as we may move in the foreseeable future.
Today Dulux emailed an apology and said they were sending through the post vouchers for 2 x 2.5 litres of Dulux Quick Dry Gloss plus a further 10 litres of Dulux Endurance Matt.
So I will be using the vouchers and forgetting the matter as it has paled into insignificance compared with my other (health) problems.
But the best of luck to the rest of you who deserve better treatment.0 -
I have just used some Dulux eggshell which I thought would stay white not go yellow. Well less than two months of painting a small shelve in my porch which is surrounded by dg glass underneath a glass terrarium which has plants in it its gone slightly yellow. So its now back to water based paint again. I only used gloss because of the finish and slightly more robust than water based paint0

We were affected at this in our home, and also in another property I own.
I am so annoyed because we redecorated the house in plenty of time for the arrival of a new baby to allow fumes to go etc. Now baby is here her beautiful white nursery has yellow woodwork. Also, we spent hours in the evenings and at weekends doing this. All they are offering is two tins of paint! I am fuming. I would not put this paint back on the walls spending even more of my time.
We have the tins of paint we used luckily but who keeps receipts for paint once the work is done? You don't EXPECT it to go wrong! I need a decorator to do the work, but to be honest due to the presence of a baby in the house now it would be highly inconvenient and we would have to move out for a week or so.
So financial compensation it is for the wasted hours and HUGE inconvenience. It simply does not do what it is meant to do - Dulux has screwed up and needs to compensate.
I am taking it to the small claims court, just waiting to hear back from them as to what name and address to put on the form.
Please let me hear about any claims which have been settled, and with what! They can't get away with this.0 -
They are asking me for a recipt or photo of the tin, neither of which I have anyone got any ideas, or a spare photo lol0
