I have been meaning to call dulux for sometime about this paint as its gone really yellow shortly after painting, everyone who visits asks me why i didnt paint the coving, dado, door frames, skirting boards in white as the walls are white. Im embarrassed to tell them i did but it just goes yellow even though i used dulux paint.

Then i saw the watchdog programme as am glad to know im not alone with my yellow paint. So tried to call them but the phones just keep ringing out??? maybe they dont want to resolve anymore cases??

The thing is i doubt i have my receipt now although i do have the large tin of paint still half full, and the evidence to show. Will they still be willing to sort this out if i have no receipt???

who has had any response from them since watchdog bought it to attention?
  • I had a reply to my e-mail - they offered me a £10 voucher (which I won't be accepting). We painted the bedroom in November 2010 and the paintwork went yellow within about 3 months. The discolouration has ruined the whole look of the room. Do people think the small claims court is the best route forward?

It stays white if its exposed to light a lot but normally gloss goes yellow quickly. I normally buy water based Satin paint now because of the yellowing

I think this is down to them changing the formula to comply eco emissions. Blooming EU and there poxy regulations

Yes they will!! Luckily I still have the receipts, but they will use tins of paint as evidence too! You will get a personal response after 3 working days of them receiving the complaint (you have to fill in a form)

I would go to the small claims court, pretty shoddy that they are only offering a tenners voucher, doesnt even cover decorating costs? I am asking for a compelte refund on the paint cost (£60) plus re decorating costs for all gloss work in my flat (we did the whole lot all at once when we moved in - I have been told this will be £500 at the very very cheapest) - will be going to the small claims court if they don't offer at least that!!

Yeah thats what it says in the watchdog film - however, my parents have always used white gloss paint no problem - if they can't stop white paint yellowing in a matter of weeks - they shouldnt be selling it as 'pure brilliant white' and 'long lasting' - its ovibously misleading!

Should get my claims form through tommorow from them, I had to try a few times to get through to their call centre - so keep trying, I used the number below watchdogs film... She said that as I havent got the tins of paint, they will use receipts/photos of the problem as evidence. They sounded quite helpful on the phone- and as said in other forums, just threaten to take them to a small claims court if they are not complying and coughing up the cash. Disgusting that they were selling such carp paint in the 1st place- will be using a different brand in the future.

Am I rotten for considering this all vindicates my chronic procrastination in avoiding doing the gloss on the skirting boards in my bedroom?! :D
Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!
  • I emailed them and got a voucher for 2x2.5lts gloss and 2x5lts endurance matt
I have since heard they are sending out forms to be filled in with evidence, so I would think as long as you still have proof of some sort that you will get reimbursed well.

    Hi all,

Glad i found this thread. I was just about to purchase some Dulux Gloss this week to paint 6 doors and wood work in our hallway which has no external windows. Should i buy still or not.

I have not undercoated yet but wood work is ready to paint. What should i use instead of dulux white gloss as i dont want the yellow issue

    Chris

maybe a water based paint instead of oil based, from what I can gather it is the oil that causes yellowing.

Yes, most oil based paint will go yellow. Some Dulux oilbased (OB) white gloss paint I used went yellow in weeks. Satin paint is more resistant. Sikkens Satura is said to be yellow resistant, well I hope so! Water based paint does not AFAIK go yellow, but it has issues. Apparently adding Floetrol can help WB paint flow, and keep a wet edge longer. The problem with OB paint is recent EU regulations concerning volatile organic compounds i.e. solvents. Dulux told me they have solved the problems, but naaah, they haven't, or at least they hadn't when they spoke to me.

I emailed Dulux recently about this rapid discolouration issue. I've had so far two offers of 'goodwill'.

First email they sent, they offered me a Dulux Decorative Paint Voucher for 5litres of Dulux Quick dry Gloss followed by a further 10litres of Dulux Endurance Matt. I got in touch with them again following this and told them that I had no need to store paint that I'm not needing so it'd be a waste, therefore how would I go about them processing a refund. I was emailed again and they told me, for a refund to be issued, they would either need proof of purchase or pictures of the cans together (be it empty or part full), well I certainly don't qualify for the latter part as I didn't keep the empty cans! who would? I only have one part tin remaining of the five that I bought. Anyhow, they have also offered me a further 20 litres of any of their products.

I really don't need to store all these potential tins of unwanted paint, this is why I'd much rather get a refund on the 5 tins I originally purchased. It's cheaper for them anyway. I'm in the process of taking photos of all the discolouration and will be emailing them again.
