Dulux non drip gloss paint- I am not not going mad after all!

  • Hi, I have had the same problem with dulux - painted all the skirting boards etc which are now yellow. We have actually just re-painted everywhere to make it white again (this really showed up just how yellow everywhere was) and I did take photos to evidence it. Trouble is I don't have a receipt, and only have the reminants from one tin of paint left :( I don't want vouchers for paint from them as we have just painted everywhere, so am hoping for financial compensation.

I have rang and requested a form which has not yet arrived - can anyone email me one? Or is an online version not available?

    Thanks

  • Painted all the skirtings / Doors / Radiator covers etc in my 2 bedroom bungalow with Crown Non Drip Gloss - Pure Brilliant White in August last year - guess what - all now yellow.
Complained 2 days ago directly via Crown website - yesterday received comprehensive explanation and today ( because I then sent photo's / receipts / had paint can details ) offer of cost refund, by cheque, and replacement water based gloss.
Good and polite service and recognition of problem.

  • Hi, has anyone heard back from them yet? I sent the form/photographs/receipts etc (as well as a very strongly worded letter) last Friday, so am hoping to hear something in the next few days.

My form took over a week to arrive. Would send off the photos of the old paint work/tin of paint, as well as a strongly written letter requesting compensation for the time etc it will take you to re-paint (don't think I would personally tell them I had allready done this work as they may try wriggle out of the situation!!) then if you get paint vouchers on top of this I am sure you could give them to friends/family/charity.

I emailed Dulux recently about this rapid discolouration issue. I've had so far two offers of 'goodwill'.

First email they sent, they offered me a Dulux Decorative Paint Voucher for 5litres of Dulux Quick dry Gloss followed by a further 10litres of Dulux Endurance Matt. I got in touch with them again following this and told them that I had no need to store paint that I'm not needing so it'd be a waste, therefore how would I go about them processing a refund. I was emailed again and they told me, for a refund to be issued, they would either need proof of purchase or pictures of the cans together (be it empty or part full), well I certainly don't qualify for the latter part as I didn't keep the empty cans! who would? I only have one part tin remaining of the five that I bought. Anyhow, they have also offered me a further 20 litres of any of their products.

I really don't need to store all these potential tins of unwanted paint, this is why I'd much rather get a refund on the 5 tins I originally purchased. It's cheaper for them anyway. I'm in the process of taking photos of all the discolouration and will be emailing them again.

Well done for being persistent! Dulux are so crafty... like you say very little people keep receipts/empty tins of paint, hense trying to get out of it. I am so lucky I kept all ours. Keep persisting and bugging them, also maybe you could send them your credit card statement with the paint purchases on. Yes its not going to prove 100% that you brought the paint, but it works in your favour a bit?? Especially if the total amount = roughly the price of the paint. Worth a try at least.

Just noticed this thread. I used Dulux gloss in feb 2011 and couldn't believe how it left my window and door frames, no sooner had it dried it went flaky and yellow. What I mess we had to contend with. I emailed Dulux and was told it must be down to my prep of the area etc, total nonsense. Then I saw an item in The Daily Mail online last month about people claiming compensation, I tried to leave a comment on their page (that wasn't supposed to be moderated ) but they never printed it. Anyway, I emailed Dulux again and mentioned my previous email and horrendous problems I'd had with their paint. They emailed me back after about 3 days and said as a good will gesture they'd send vouchers, which I've just received, worth about £120 for gloss and matt. I was thinking of Ebaying these but my name is on the vouchers, anyone know if I can? I don't know if I risk using Dulux again tbh.
    I love this place :j:T:j

I have also received these vouchers and I will be happy to use them as I have a couple of rooms that need decorating anyway.
I am also just about to send off my forms for compensation along with receipt and photos etc.

What worries me is the the letter that came with the vouchers states that this is in final settlement so does that mean that if I use the vouchers I cannot send off my form etc. for compensation. It will cost me more than the voucher value to redecorate the rooms affected.
    What do you think?

    Hey all,

Just to make you aware I submitted a complaint to dulux regarding this issue.

I received a voucher for 2x 2.5l non drip gloss and 2x 5l endurance Matt.

I also received a cheque for £200 cash towards my decorator costs.

Be happy when I get rid of my yellow flat. Painted 10 doors in the stuff like a fool. Gonna take me a while!

I also wrote to Dulux and got my response today. I have been given the same as above except £50! I'm not happy as I need to pay for decorators to come in and redo my gloss. Dulux have asked for me to send a letter of acceptance for their offer. What should I do?
Not sure where to go from here.
    Any ideas welcome.

Does anyone who has had success claiming decorators costs mind sharing how they did it- I used this pain to repaint my entire house before recarpeting and whilst I dont want to profit out of it I dont see why I should spend several days repainting when the paint was not fit for purpose.
If I need to lift the carpets and refit I will also be out of pocket which again is not something I want.
