Ah yes but most people don't go out and buy up thousands of care bears with the express intention of selling them on at vastly inflated prices.mac123 wrote:hey, who rattled your cage and oh yeah, i forgot, EVERYONE who sells items on ebay only breaks even!! whether it's tickets, your sisters care bear or david beckhams BMW, people are in it to make a profit and not to offer unique, hard to find items.
I posted here for advice not criticism
Thank you
I just find it ironic that you're asking for help on a website to that gives advice on how to save money when all you're interested in is screwing genuine music and sports fans out of money.
If Ebay are finally cracking down on touts then good on 'em, it's about time.0 -

it's called SUPPLY and DEMAND
and FYI the tickets i sell are still on sale at the official website so if people want to buy through me instead of researching properly, that's market forces pal!!0 -

I also thought ebay were cuttung down on sales where the seller doesn't actually have the item? You could have been caught in a double whammy, selling prohibited tickets and selling things you don't actually have in hand.

Soo I think mac123 has the tickets tho i'm not sure??
Selling the tickets is against the rules yeah but I dont think it warranted a banning, perhaps a warning and a reminder of the fact it was prohibited on ebay - its no different to buying other goods and selling them on for a profit which is what many people do?? Seems a harsh way to find out you are doing something wrong to me??Official DFW Nerd 210

No, touting distorts the market. Touts buy up tickets at face value (often resorting to underhand tactics and sometimes violence) and then sell them on at an inflated price.RACHIE77 wrote:Soo I think mac123 has the tickets tho i'm not sure??

This distorts the market because they create an extra tier where none is necessary. It's different to selling other items as the tickets have a set value when sold by the promoter. Furthermore, many of the touts on Ebay are selling tickets which they don't actually physically have (against the T&Cs).
I don't have a problem with people selling at a profit. It's the fact that touting is effectively extortion that annoys me.0 -

Whether or not someone is touting is not the problem really. The terms and conditions on ebay prohibit the selling of certain items where those items themselves are not allowed to be sold on. The following is cut and pasted from ebay help:
"Before listing an item on eBay, you should carefully read any contracts that you have entered into that may limit your right to sell your item on eBay. Some items, such as event tickets, have terms printed on the item that may limit your ability to sell that item. In other cases, such as when you are distributing a company's products, you may have signed a separate contract with them."
Events tickets often have the clause written on them that they are not for resale so ebay could not condone the selling of something that is prohibited.
There does seem to be an exemption though for businesses legitimately selling events tickets, again this is cut and pasted from ebay help:
"Business sellers offering tickets for sale to consumers on eBay must comply with the Price Indications (The Resale of Tickets) Regulations 1994 (guidance is available at http://www.dti.gov.uk/ccp/topics1/guide/pricetickets.pdf). The main requirement is that the face value of a resold ticket has to be made clear to the consumer at the point of sale. eBay recommends that this information is included in your eBay listing description."
Full details of listing policies re tickets can be seen at :

I see what you are saying vijay but i may be too trusting but I dont think it was really that bad for mac123, she said she just sold 2 tickets that she no longer needed - noticed a profit margain and sold 2 more -
I do agree with what you are saying as it sucks when people buy the tickets and then the event is classed as sold out and then you are forced to buy them at a premium, I just think this was a little bit of a harsh lesson in this instance when it was a genuine person who got banned.... not the big time touts...
She came to us for help on an 'ebay' board (yes its part of the MSE site but not all threads on here are money saving at all) and probably didnt need to get a mouthful too as her account just got banned and not having the best of days after all -- i just say give mac a break, I don't actually know her btw and to the best of my knowledge this is the first time we've crossed paths on this site but... i know I personally would have sold tickets i didnt need, and, if I was chuffed at the profits would have maybe sneaked in a couple more for luck - (if thats all it was) then i'm afraid i would have been banned too (if I hadnt had read the thread on here just the other day and found out it was prohibited on ebay)
hope this makes sense, balancing a baby on my knee so am trying to do too much at once - lol!
p.s i was still typing this whilst you posted ur thread soo xOfficial DFW Nerd 210

Well, you're not going to change my mind that it's taking advantage of genuine fans. Marking up tickets for a profit is not really particularly ethical. After all, it's always possible to sell tickets at face value, as no one gets cheated then.
There are sites such as https://www.scarletmist.co.uk where you can offer tickets for face value.0 -

I totally agree with you - it makes me sick how people treat fellow fans.
