Which reminded me that I do know 2 people who were double barrelled before meeting. She kept one part of hers and added part of his, eg Miss Smith-Jones married Mr Williams-Davies. He remained Williams-Davies and passed this onto their children, she became Mrs Smith-Williams.

I think sometimes people confuse getting married with having a 'wedding'.

Everyone can afford to get married. choosing to delay it so that you can have an expensive wedding is something different. There's nothing wrong with doing that of course, but when people are unhappy because 'we can't afford to get married yet', I just don't get it. Why make yourself unhappy? It's the married bit that is important, not a dress and so on. There's no need to delay if the married bit is what you are really interested in rather than the 'event wedding'. It costs £70 to file the paperwork at the register office and then there is a fee for the ceremony, and there should be an option costing less than £100.

Both my boys have their Dad's surnames so we all have different!
I am wanting to change the eldests to mine, as the youngests father would never allow it, but I don't mind that, I just want at least one of them to have the same surname and as the eldests dad doesn't bother with him, I don't see why he should have hjis surname, I have come accross so much conflicting information on how to go about this though :/
