Hi all,
I'm knee deep in cardboard boxes, a cat travel cage, and lots of junk:eek::eek: can't imagine how I have accumulated junk in a few short months here:D
I'm into the council bungalow on Monday next, the previous tenant has left me the carpets in the lounge and bedroom and two small hallways plus a nice fire surround so just have to get my furniture in and start life in new place.
I really have had to weigh up the pros and cons, pluses and negatives on this move.
Negatives are no buses through the village, no village shops :eek: weighed up against, one level living, walk in shower room/toilet, and security of tenure. There is an alarm system in the bungalow connected to local councils emergency response centre.
Its a fantastic location with fields all around and it's only a mile walk to decent shops and all those kind of things.
I really now need to fine tune my meal plans/store cupboard supplies/freezer and fridge contents as I just can't nip out for a pint of milk if I run out. I'm going to do some shopping online delivery comparisons and consider that way of shopping.
I have my emergency box dusted off incase of power cuts, torch, wind up radio, wind up lantern etc I pinched this idea of the Old Style Board after the winter of 2010 only to have a mild winter in 2011, goodness knows what winter 2012 might bring.
In my home life the credit crunch is now hitting hard, I'm feeling the pinch now, no spare money to cover emergencies or something breaking down. I have never in all my years good and bad felt and been so skint, yet I feel empowered by it, little things, kindnesses are so much more appreciated and consumer adverts dont matter, life for me is peaceful and quiet and oh so much more enjoyable.
Dom cat is well, I think the locals will be glad to see the back of him at nighties as he howls around midnight most nights and one night someone's gonna throw a shoe at him and there aim will be good:D:rotfl::j
So hope everyone's well, I'm off to scour the Old Style Board to glean some hints on what to keep in my store cupboard.
What are your must haves that you have in your store cupboard and under the sink?
Byee for now, will be updating on a more regular basis from now on, now that my injuries are better
T xNow fingers crossed there's a big black and white cat with massive whiskers out there looking for a forever home with a batty dumpy lady :A yep there is, found him Domino big fat huge whiskered purring machine that's taken over my house life and heart, life's good, as I pander to the whims of my new lodger..:rotfl::rotfl::D:D:p0 -
BlimeyWell that's another load of carp gone to local recycling place, and I have started moving a few of my smaller possessions into da bungalow.
The parking is horrific by the bungalow, it just has a small pull in type thing and there is enough space, just but five bungalows and eight cars don't add up. Three of the bungalows have two cars with owners who seem to have the I was here first matey nah nah nah attitude, I don't want to be stepping on toes yet bieng the new kid on the block, just want to suss out the new neighbours before I introduce myself properly to them.
Weather here is grey and cloudy but at least it's dry.
Will be back on laters, got to take some more rubbish to tip before it closes.
Keep well all

but sorry about there being more month than money!
i've had an eventful few weeks too(??mid life crisis)
handed in notice at hospital after 24 years in nhs, just couldn't take any more.
have a new job,to start in september with a charity, still nursing though.
wages will be £160 ish less a month!!
am still trying to work out a budget for next 2 months or so,last wage packet is tomorrow, new one will be end sept.
have you done a stock check at home?list everything in the kitchen cupboards/fridge/freezer and plan/buy around that only.
i've had a week of toast and butter for breakfast
dairylea and crackers and fruit for lunches alternated with homemade soup
and beans or egg or tnned mackeral for tea!
boring but a cheap week whilst son is away.
good luck Tammy, glad to have caught up!!LIVE SIMPLY * GIVE MORE * EXPECT LESS * BE THANKFUL0 -
Right i now have an internet connection, a television aeriel, a new gas combi boiler and a new floor on the wetroom in da bungalow, been a bloody horrendous few weeks, only constant thing was Dom cat brining in field mice...he soon stopped it, appears the novelty has worn off and he is busy serannading the local female cat population, think he gets a fair od shut ups shouted at him lol.
Im hauling in my friend tommorow, favours bienf paid back to knock this garden into shape, though the council cut the grass they dont half make a bleedin right hash of it and then have the cheek to chuck the grass cuttings in the verge of the communal bit,,,not anymore they wont.
Two of the bungalows have done mutual exchanges * wonder if it was Dom cat moving in lol * so have two new neighbours, they were the two miserable gits who moaned about the parking so all other bungalows waved them a fond farewell with a big sigh of relief..
Went past Tumbledown Cottage yesterday, my lovely trimmed privet hedge has gone wild and the side gravel path is knee high in weeds, shame still one has to leave behind attachments to things, but would love to see it all tidied up..might send new tenant some gardening magazine lol
BUT,,,I have put my Tumbledown Cottage house notice name thingey on da bungalow wall lol so still live in Tumbledown Cottage but not a cottage as we think of cottages.
Lifes quiet, still mighty skint, nearly had heart failure when I read that ATOS has been given the contracts in some areas to sort out hte PIP medicals that might be coming in..ye gods where is all going to end.
Am wondering if things are getting any better out there in real world land, I have hid myself up in the corner in da bungalow with Dom cat these last few weeks but am a lot better now, just dont feel like putting the world to rights at the minute...
Hope your all keeping well, hugs to them that need them and dont let the !!!!!!s grind you down will be back to posting more often now..
Warmest wishes to al

Well am so so tired, there is a communal alleyway down the back of the 5 bungalows that leads to a nice little piece of land that the council keep trimmed, well the lawn part..the previous tenant who had been there 19 years took this over and cultivated the edges and kept it immaculate:eek::eek: it doesn't look immaculate.
Nettles taller than me, thistles and weeds all round the edge of the central grass piece...and someone has started dumping grass cuttings all by my compost bin, they can naff off and keep there cuttings to themselves, going to check it isn't the council contractors before I start moaning ahem I mean constructive dialogue on how whoever it is will be getting a visit from Dom cat on a nightly yowl serenade, joking apart it's just plain laziness tossing there lawn cuttings into a hedgerow, I shall be vigilant and keep watch.
Managed to clear a decent amount today, though it's going to be a couple of weeks before there's any noticeable difference, I'm covered in nettle stings and thosevsticky little green things.dont know the name of the play :rotfl:
Also need to source a 6 x 4 shed...not sure if I'm ever going to have the makings of a gardener but will enjoy trying.
Might snoop round the OS gardening thread...and need to get some birds seed thing eyes up as the previous bungalow tenant fed them and they line up of the fence outside the kitchen window looking in hopefully...will go source some decent feed etc at the weekend.
I sat on the green plastic patio chair tonight and just closed my eyes , silence, birds singing then a god awful yowl, Turbo pigeon and his lady love Ms O Beest were giving Dom cat a right flutter of wings and a few pecks daft cat ran in through cat flap and started yapping and purring all upset, he will learn life in semi countryside is a different pace of life than in town...that cats nuts, bonkers...
I spied Rusty the fox this evening poking his nose through my gate, sorry kiddo, I know your beautiful but you ain't raiding my bins.
Right of for smooch round the OS threads trying to find out on how to live on a breath of fresh air and a bag of porridge, moneys in short supply, just can't seem to add any money to my emergency fund pot...need to get back on the OStyle way of life.
Warmest wishes to all

Hi Tammy, I like the sound of your new bungalow and I am glad that Dom is settling in and getting to know the local ladies.
I moved into my teeny-tiny flat and love it. I love being in the centre of town and I love having everything all on one level. I am hoping it will be much warmer in the winter too.
Unfortunately, I became ill just after I moved (I have chronic illness) probably due to a combination of house move and work-related stress and am currently off sick and similarly stoney broke. Think it is time for me to buck my ideas up regarding the budget again. Sigh.31.5/1000 -
Quick catch up, I'm alive and kicking, Dom Cat is thriving well, still bieng attacked by Turbo Pigeon and partner but he will keep trying to catch them, he's been pecked and feather fluttered so often he still doesn't get the message to leave them alone.
Da bungalow is shaping up ok. Still not sure if I like the area, it's too quiet, if a place can be too quiet lol.
Have been helping a friend sort out her finances, jeez I panick owing a couple of thousand her debts are £56.000 yes you read it correctly £56.000 some folk eghhhh it's not easy wading through carrier bags of unopened mail and demanding letters:eek: still we are making progress slowly.
I'm enjoying the lovley weather at the moment have washed and aired properly the contents of my airing cupboard and have painted out airing cupboard so it's nice and crispy clean and smelling nice as well with newly laundered contents.
Finances are so tight now I'm begining to feel the squeeze now, have decided to blow some of my paltry savings on a small spare freezer, as there is virtually no public transport through where I live am thinking of getting freezer to store extra staple items like milk bread etc.
Have stocked up my store cupboard basics and with things mentioned on other parts of the forum like tinned veg, rice, pasta tags, looks like its going to be a pull the belt in phase over the winter for me and putty cat.
Cut down Dom cats posh cat food, he went on food strike for a week so he won the argument...don't mess with putty cats food or else
Glad toy love your new place FrugalLina, hope health wise your keeping well.
Right love to all xxx Hugs to those that need them and hope the weather keeps well for us all.
regards
