PS - Mmm not sure about recommendations for decor with a terracotta carpet. My advice would be to paint everything white first (cheaper). But let's see you in this cottage first :)

  • Hi Piglet

Well its more faded terracotta:eek: but theres loads of matching curtains and sofas on Ebay dirt cheap :p:p mainly because that has been out of fashion for so long nobody wants them :D but hey if I hang on to any terracotta buys they may come back into fashion , my Laura Ashley curtains would have gone well in this cottage but hey ho needs must so they were sold.

Im hoping to hire a man (woo hoo) with a van to help me move, but most of the van man combos round here are fat blokes with clapped out tranny vans and they spend more time hitching there jeans up round there beer bellies trying to heave the furniture into the homes of the poor unfortunates that have hired them and standing against anything that will support them while they catch there breathe, sweating and cussing about taking on the job.

There is one man and a van locally who does the bizz, hes insured as well and his van is immaculate thats the man I need dont want the new potential neighbours looking down there noses at me from behind there neighbourhood watch item oops mean net curtains.:T

Ok am off to my bed to dream of magnolia walls and me wandering round Tumbledown...oh such sweet dreams
    Night all

Now fingers crossed there's a big black and white cat with massive whiskers out there looking for a forever home with a batty dumpy lady :A yep there is, found him Domino big fat huge whiskered purring machine that's taken over my house life and heart, life's good, as I pander to the whims of my new lodger..:rotfl::rotfl::D:D:p

Keep dreaming of the cottage - the Universe will send the ways and means of you achieving your dream - your part of the deal is keeping your eyes open for the opportunities.

First thing is to stop thinking that "Money is such a horrible thing" - you will scare it off :D-start instead to imagine the flow of lovely money towards you helping you to get your dream home............ betcha it comes.:j

And if that sounds a bit "Airy Fairy" - thats what Ithough, 2 years and 10K ago;) Besides better to have a lovely time working towards your goal rather than be all sorry and depressed about it.

Tumbledown cottage sounds lovely and like Memory Girl says, keep positive and soon you will be moving in! Keep proactive on the job search too as it will mean that you dont have the same frantic struggle each month for finding rent. Sometimes you have to think outside the box, find some temp work or think about what skills you have to offer, I do dogwalking and gardening which I can fit in around looking after the kids.

Freecycle and Charity Shops are your friends when you need to furnish on the cheap.

As for raising money, have you got any old mobiles you could recycle for cash? Boot fairs, which you're already planning can raise quite a bit depending on what you have to sell. The last one I did with my sister we raised over £350 profit (but I did have some virtually new motorbike stuff and golf gear to sell which all sold at reasonable prices).

If you've got any gold jewellery take it to a local jeweller to sell you'll get a better price than any of those companies who advertise on TV. I recently sold a sovereign necklace for nearly £200, having been offered far less by one of those "send it off" type companies.

I'm sure you'll get the money together for Tumbledown Cottage as you seem to have a very positive mindset at the moment.

  • Ohhhhh Tammy, welcome to the boards and really routing for you and Tumbledown Cottage - you were just meant to be together, I can feel it!:)

Determination shines through in every post :)

Congrats on the e*bay sales (wow to the curtains!) and hope the car boot goes as well.

As to the terracotta - well, not my 1st choice (although I was also one who had terracotta sofas etc many years ago:o) but it's liveable with and magnolia or white paint is really cheap and would smarten the place up to start with (you can always change things when money becomes available).

Will be popping back to see how you're getting on - after all, us single, slightly eccentric pet loving people have to stick together!;)

Well good morning peeps:D:D:D was up bright and breezy this morning and went to the local big bootsale and what an eyeopener, first:ply the price to get in £1:eek: and secondly the prices bieng asked,I know inflation and all that but ye gods, the prices. I had on my £3 Prim**k Tshirt and one of the stalls was asking £2.50 for it, naturally folk looked and walked away, the ones with more realistic pricing had lots of folks looking and more important buying.

I have to confess, ahem goodness me, yes I spent some money.....all 40p of it on 2 cream mugs as these match my old set of 6 but 2 of them had chips on them so a bargain Im thinking.
I was also tempted but resisted the urge to buy some vases but thought oooh no, dust collectors.

I now have my plan of action re the bootsale, arrive early, display your goods with clearly marked prices on them and take a flask and some sarnies as it could be a longish day, and with bacon sarnie van smells wafting over the bootsale the urge to stuff my face wont win :D:D and most important, lots of change and carrier bags, so will use this week to check, wash press any clothes Im taking, make sure all the small electricals work and in general make sure there clean, quite looking forward to next Mondays bootsale, the whole of the local peeps will be out from hibernation to kick off the Bank Holiday Monday annual bootsale visit cause the kids are driving them nuts because the kids are at home on there Easter hols :p:p .

ok am away to have a soak in the bath:eek: and block the plughole, will be back on laters after I have had my meal planned S:eek:unday lunch, egg chips and beans yum yum, yes my meal plans are not very imaginative...yet..just discovered a thread on here thats all about frugality so will spend sometime this afternoon looking on there with my pen and notepad at the ready.

Byeee for now peeps!! ooh and have found out where local cat rescue place is, so theres another planned visit in the future..

Hello Tammy, great diary, and good luck with finding the rest of the money, I reckon you're going to get what you need - and more!

I'm keeping my fingers crossed today that a friend who is sadly needing to rehome her 4 cats will let me and DD have one of them, we've been wanting a new kitty for years but the cost of feeding and vet bills has put me off, as I've got such a squeaky tight budget now!

Going to subscribe and if I can think of any pearls of money-making wisdom I'll let you know. Actually, just thought there is a monthly "make £10 a day" thread on here, I've not really read it myself, so not sure how feasible some of the ideas are, but hopefully worth a look for you?
