According to you in other posts iOS is soooo good it doesn't matter the hardware configuration. Or at least thats what you roll out every time when I mention other phones are better spec'd.
It doesn't. As long as it runs well, that's all that matters. It's completely pointless having a phone with an amazing hardware spec if it's hampered by lousy software that's laggy, jerky and poorly optimised. The two have to be married together to get best results.Does Siri need a dual core cpu and more powerful graphics to run??? No.
Siri doesn't need any of those things. Apple have simply used Siri as a software differentiator over their previous products. If you want to use Siri, you need to buy a 4S. If you don't like that, don't buy a 4S. It's a pretty simple choice.Siri is a gimmick and that gimmick is the key way justifying a very poor upgrade in terms of hardware
I think the Siri we have now is just the start of something that'll be bigger and more sophisticated in the future. You've got to start somewhere else we'd never advance onto more innovative products.0 -
Lets no be coy, siri, as I've stated, is a gimmick designed to make the iPhone 4S appear different from the iPhone 4. The fact apple wont let it speaks volumes.
You're forgetting the hardware upgrades too. Siri is but one of the differences between them.OK, so you previous point is mute
Moot surely? Hardware has long since stopped being the primary metric to determine how good or bad a device is. Software and services now play a huge part in that (which is the right way to look at things since the overall customer experience is more important than numbers and benchmarks).0 -
Hi,
My old phone is about to die so I'm wanting to upgrade.
I'm on giffgaff so don't want a contract phone. I'm not bothered about having the latest model, just want decent fast internet and something easy to use and doesn't take too much tweaking. I'm after something I can get second hand for about £100 - 150.
I was looking at the iphone 3gs but have been persuaded out of that because of the faults they are prone to. At the moment I'm looking at the HTC Desire S but I really don't do tech so is there anything similar I should look at?
Thanks
is OP asking for the latest:mad:
think huawei300 for £100 or £72 as mentioned is best bet:)Honesty is the best policy doesn't matter which web site
you are on!
if i had known then what i know now!
a bargain is only a bargain if you really need it!0 -

Hi Kate,
i was in the same position not long ago, i ended up getting this and i am more than happy with it. DH also got one shortly afterwards too.
Were both on Giffgaff and it was easy to set up, things that i wasn't sure of i looked up on the Giffgaff site and we have never looked back.
The phone is sim free and i have the £10 goodybag each month and DH has the £15 as he needs more minutes - great.

Pathetic hardware upgrades that it apparently didn't need according to you, or was the hardware of the 4 not able to run iOS properly? Was it laggy?
I wouldn't call it a pathetic hardware upgrade. I don't know of any other phone as pocketable and powerful as the 4S to this day.Yes moot. Thats right software and services are way more important than lowly hardware! Hell lets just ditch the hardware altogether shall we...
The point is they go hand in hand. There's no point in having the hardware if the software isn't able to keep up.0 -
So was the hardware of the 4 not able to run iOS properly? Was it laggy?
Everyone knows the 4 to 4S "upgrade" was pathetic.
There are various phones on the market better than the 4S, hell most of the phones on the market at the time of its release were better.
Agreed, but future proofing via the hardware is a good idea. Can't really do that with apple though as they'll force you to upgrade by holding back software features.
Got any examples? Nearest I could find was the Sony Xperia P but that was laggy in comparison to the 4S.0 -
-
In what way its thinner that the 4S. I find the screen size of the iphone very limiting!
The S2 is too wide. It also has a really low PPI screen. I remember thinking how jaggy the text in the browser looked in comparison! The Xperia P is a great size (and had great built quality too).0 -

Basically apple wanted to make more money from its iSheep. It basically remarketed the same phone to them and threw in a new [STRIKE]feature[/STRIKE] gimmick (which is more than capable of working on the 3GS) to kid on it was a new phone.
There must have been some serious 'under-the-hood' changes in the hardware where simply holding it in the most natural position is enough to stop it working properly.
Quality engineering and high regard for customers.0 -
Thats a shame for you then, especially if the rumoured 5 inch screen of the iphone 5 is true. I have an inkling a larger phone would be ok for you then.
Still I'd take the SGS2 any day over the iphone. I find it powerful and pocketable - and cheaper too.
So are there any Android phones that fall into that criteria then? Or is there just no choice at all?0
