They are not really my relatives - one is a niece of my Aunty V's husband, the other is a nephew of one of another (now deceased and I never knew them) aunt's husband. So no blood line there.
Despite there being several brothers and sisters, none of them apart from my mother had any children, and she only had me. So there is only me and my son who are connected by blood.
I know the nephew and his wife quite well, they are a nice couple and we all go out for a meal when I visit Mother. I have met the niece a few times, but it is M the nephew who has been looking after my Mother and Aunty V, despite not being related to them, other than by a distant connection through marriage.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Imagine someone holding forth on biology whose only knowledge of the subject is the Book of British Birds, and you have a rough idea of what it feels like to read Richard Dawkins on theology: Terry Eagleton0 -
That still makes them family- you have loved relatives in common which is far more important than a close blood tie.I Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole

Oh yes, I agree, we consider M and his wife to be friends as well as family x I was just explaining that there were no other blood relatives.(AKA HRH_MUngo)

Good to hear that your Aunt thought so well of you and that she had good people in her life to help her.
I don't know the age of your relative M, but perhaps given your good fortune with your Aunt, you could consider leaving something in your own will to M and his family when the time comes. What goes around, comes around etc.Make £2025 in 2025

I don't usually venture into this forum, but a quiet afternoon at work has meant I was transfixed by this thread. I'm an embittered old cynic but something made my eyes go all funny and the screen blurry at times.
I have been calling "D & V" Daisy and Vi in my head as they are fantastic old lady names. Better to have arrived late in their lives than never at all. They are an EYESORES!!!!1 -

sdw,
That is a lovely gesture your aunt made to you, It goes to show how happy you made her and your birth mother, bringing a lot of joy into their lives.
Enjoy that windfall because that is what aunt V wanted you to do, I'm sure.

It absolutely means a lot. The gesture, far more than the money, although of course that is nice to have. I still cry about the gesture sometimes, even though I knew several months ago about the will.
I do not actually have the money yet, the rest of the estate has to be distributed and then my mother and I share what is left. The executor M told me that all the shares and property had been sold and that they were now just awaiting payment. They have paid out the smaller bequests.
She also left my husband and son an amount each, they have theirs, my son has spent some of his on the sofa he always wanted(AKA HRH_MUngo)
