Thanks all for your good wishes and Merry Christmas to all :)

Aunt V at the time of writing is still stable and her male relative (the one who brings D to see me, who is about my age), says he is trying to get her moved to a better (for her needs) hospital. So hopefully she still has some time left. :) I hope, so, because although she will not be able to go back to her bungalow she may still be able to have a few good years in a nursing home. My adoptive mother spent her last four years in one in her 90s, was very happy there, made new friends and put on weight because she was eating properly and not worrying about whether she had paid the milkman :). I wish the same for Auntie V.

D I think is feeling a bit bad about not being able to look after V any more, but she is 86 herself and as I told her, she will just make herself ill and would not in any case be able to give Auntie V the care she needs.

I will ring D today on Christmas Day, I'm sorry I can't get to see her but we are committed to going to our son's partner's mum's today.

Have a good Christmas everyone xx

  • I have loved reading this thread over the years and hearing how well things worked out for you.

Sorry to hear that your auntie is poorly, and hope that she will still be with you for many years to come, so you can continue to get to know her, your (birth) mother and the rest of your family
  • My Auntie V died peacefully this morning.

It wad a privilege to know her and especially to meet an older person who looked like me!

My mother is OK, she has people to look after her and I will see her as soon as I can. She is relieved that V did not have to lingr on any longer.

So glad you got to know them when you did but that's sad news now.
