    UPDATE:

Had a phone call from the aunt, they want to postpone the meeting as the aunt has not been well and birth mother wants her there (quite understand). They are going to let me know a more convenient time. I will write to birth mother in the meantime.

Aunt was very friendly and called me 'love'. :)

Just read this and now I'm sitting here with a silly grin on my face x :D

    UPDATE:

Had another talk with Aunt on the phone, they are still not well enough to meet, but Aunt has said I can ring her (there is no point ringing birth mothr as she is deaf).

Apparently birth mother had a fall last year and now never goes out and aunt has recently been in hospital for angina. Bearing in mind that birth mother is 84 and I think the aunt is in her 90s! I am not going to hurry them, but I would like to meet so hope we are able to do so before it is too late.

Whatever happens, I shall continue to write to birth mother and senf her photos, I will send her some flowers on Mothers' Day and will talk to Aunt on the phone. Aunt is very friendly and calls me 'dear' and 'love'. :)

I just hope that we can meet soon, I would like to now, very much.

I've been lurking on your thread for weeks now. I just wanted to tell you how happy I am for you. I'm so glad you've been able to make contact with your birth mother and Aunt in such a positive way. I hope that you'll be able to meet them in person very soon.

Thank you for keeping us updated, your story is so heart-warming xx

I'd assumed you were from the UK, hasn't Mother's day just been?

Or have I bought my mum and extra present this year!?!?!

Yes, I meant for 2013 Mothers' Day! I am from the UK.

I must ask Aunt when Birth Mother's birthday is, I may be able to send her the flowers sooner than 2013.

Just come across this thread and read through all six pages, it has sent a shiver up my spine, so pleased for you SDW.

Can I just ask, is your first name now the same first name that your mother named you (don't let on what it is) but I just wondered, purely out of curiosity.

Hope that the aunt's health improves soon and you can arrange the get together, thinking of you x

My adoptive parents gave me a longer form of the name my Birth Mother gave me. :) For example, had my birth mother called me Anne, they would have named me Joanne or Lianne.

Ah, so looking at your user name she called you Eve then ;).

My parents didn't keep either of my birth mother's names for me which is good as I am SO not a Pamela :D.

I would have been Alison Dawn Kelly. Ali I could deal with, but definitely not an Alison :)

When I saw my adoption papers (I needed them when I applied for a passport) I was surprised to see the same first names 'before' and 'after'.

It was a private adoption and apparently my birth mother, as she had to register my birth, had contacted the solicitor making the arrangements and asked if he knew whether my adopting parents had chosen names for me.

When I did finally search for her it may have helped as she would have recognised the first names when my intermediary made contact. However when I first found out it was a shock as at the back of my mind had been the thought "I wonder what she called me".

I have no idea why, but it hurt to realise she hadn't even given me a name.
