I thought we were converging again for a moment and then you go and spoil it with some pointless speculation on the future. There might be a planet destroying meteor hidden behind the sun that is coming our way next year. That still does not affect which is the best deal for an individual today.
Unbiased, you? bah humbug.
OK two questions.
The first is kippen's question in the post above.
The second i.e. "I wonder if they will allow this provision?" is a genuine question on a scheme for effectively deriving an income from UW as well as getting one service free.
As I explained, I could get a cashcard for virtually the price of membership plus £10 fee plus top up charges.
It would make absolute no sense for me(and the majority of the UK) to have to spend several thousands of pounds on the cashcard just to recoup the hundreds of pounds extra.0 -
LOL at Cardew. Can think of nothing negative to say about the card but as he's Cardew he then comes out with speculation about something he desperately hopes will happen in the future
His agenda on here is about as hidden as a builder's crack when he's doing block paving (and is about as stomach-churning)....
PS Cardew, I'm assuming you are presently using a cashback card to derive extra income from your retail spend? If so, what is it? If not, what the hell are you pontificating on here about?Call me Carmine....
HAVE YOU SEEN QUENTIN'S CASHBACK CARD??0 -

Is this right ?
I am an independent distributor with Utility Warehouse and the views I express may not be shared by the company. The mind of the bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.

I am sure that the pre payment card does make absolutely no sense to you. I have no problem with that. It does make a lot of sense to me as I pay Utility Warehouse less for my utilities than I would any other company or combination of companies. The mind of the bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.

Is this how desperate it has become to try and beat the UW card? SE Argos Energyplus?? That tariff is £5 per year cheaper for me than UW (and that of course includes UWs one-off annual club fee). And when in the past the anti mob has been critical of the restrictions on where you spend to get the 5%, the SE cashcard allows you to shop at just Argos and Homebase to get the quoted discount off your bill (and isn't there a requirement to actually buy vouchers for at least some of the spend?)
OOhhh, where do I sign up?:p
PS Admit it, even though you lot clearly hate the company, the cashback card IS unbeatable (although cardew appears to believe any spend people do on the UW card is IN ADDITION to their normal retail spend? From what dark recesses of the mind did that thought emerge?)Call me Carmine....

I am sure that the pre payment card does make absolutely no sense to you.
On the contrary, it can make sense if you spend a lot of money at the participating stores.
What doesn't make sense is to pay hundreds of pounds more for gas and electricity with UW, when you can get the card for having, say, phone and Broadband.
The average consumer(20500/3300kWh) pays £252 pa more with UW than the cheapest supplier in my area. Even Carmine pays £233 more for his gas and electricity.
So to break even on that sum you would need to spend £5,500 to £6,000 a year on a cashcard.
P.S.
As you need 4 services for all the free calls to Uzbekistan or wherever;) Would phone/broadband and 2 UW pay as you go mobile accounts count as 4 services?0 -
if you do not take the gas and electricity you will not get the "£100 extra discount" for being a new customer for a year.
But you will have £100 (probably more) in savings if you use a switching site and go with your cheapest supplier instead!
What is the point of paying uw for their expensive g + e to get the "£100 extra discount" in the first place?
It's like saying if you don't buy your sofa at DFS you won't get the 50% off they are offering!0 -
Nige putting deflection into practiceCorrect. And I do not "need" to buy utilities from British Gas to benefit from the Utility Warehouse pre payment card either.
Nige goes on to repeat is oft stated claim (but he's not backed it up with his annual figures)I pay Utility Warehouse less for my utilities than I would to any other company or combination of companies. I accept that your decision to obtain your gas and electricity form British Gas suits you, so why can't you accept that my decision suits me, or that other Utility Warehouse customers are happy with their decision too?
Deflection again
My point is that if you already have services (phone/internet/mobile) from UW to use the 'cash'back card to reduce the spend on gas and electricity is bad maths.
Spend £1000 on the card, earn £50 'cash'back. If your bill (for any numebr of services) is less than this I beleive UW will pay you the difference.
Therefore, if you take gas &/or electricity out of the equation you do not lose any benefits of the 'cash'back card.
The only thing you would lose is daytime (?& evening) inclusive calls.0 -

You talk as if nobody spends that sort of money on their retail spend.Back of fag packet calculation...what would your annual household retail spend be? Then of course it's just about seeing if your habits match the retailers on the 5% list. If they don't, fine. If they do, eureka! 18.5 million people shop at Sainsburys each and every week. Even if you assume that some of these people are not 'unique' and maybe visit 2-3 times per week, then maybe there are 5-6 million individual shoppers who regularly shop there for groceries. Add in the fact that the 5% also applies to vehicle fuel and £120/week is by no means unrealistic for a weekly shop. The fact that the vast majority of these people (like you) currently derive NO cashback from this EXISTING spend means they are effectively chucking away money.
PS You are also 'forgetting' that someone with my exact usage in my area and taking, like me, 4 services, joining UW now would be paying £133 per year more than the cheapest online deal, not £233. £11 a month and of course they would be getting phone line/BB/all calls for a price your preferred telephony supplier couldn't come anywhere near*, not even taking into account the cashback card.
PS What cashback card do you use for your retail spend? I'm assuming you MUST use one, given your recent posts on people who use the UW card?
*Gas 15000
Electric 4800
Unlimited broadband
All calls 24/7 (including 0845/0870 and some international destinations)
Phone Line Rental
Total annual cost £1340.00.Call me Carmine....

And the UW reps and shareholder carmine waste their discount reducing a very expensive energy tariff. Have they forgotten this is a money saving site?:rotfl:0
