Thanks for that. I am sure it's a wonderful card for some people but not enough stores that I shop at regularly to make it worth my while. I'll stick with using the Utility Warehouse pre payment card as it suits my personal requirements better.

So if you had both the argosenergypluscard and the UW card would you get a total 10% off at Argos.
  • so from what I understand from this thread so far....

become a member of UW, use their telecom deal and cashback card do all your shpooing at Sainsburys et al & go elsewhere to get the best value for your energy.

    Is this right ?

good evening, just wondered if the argos energy card can be used to pay for things,or if it is a reward card that you show to receive your discount?? If its the latter then you could flash the reward card and pay with the uw card and yes your discount would be 10%.

On the assumption that you will not get a UW ID answering your question, I will give you my unbiased viewpoint.

There is no clear cut answer to that question.

The principle is that you take the UW service that costs the least extra. For instance Jannienew now gets free Broadband from another source, she has decided to save on gas and energy by moving from UW and will only have phone line rental and calls.

To get UW's telecom deal would be the least damagingfor most, however if I were interested in the UW card, I would probably use UW for an second electricity account I have that uses very little electricity per year(it could be a few pence each month), pay the UW membership fee and the extra UW would charge, and avoid UW for every other service.

Just a point on this cashback. Whilst UW apparently will allow the refunds to give accounts a credit balance, I wonder if they will always allow this provision.

For instance, if I got all my family and friends to get all their spending on my card, it is easy to envisage a situation where I would build a large credit balance on my sole account every month. I suspect(and who could blame them) that they would stop this practice.

I use the card to make sure that I pay less for my utilities. That may not suit you, so you need to work out which is the best deal to fit with your individual requirements.
