They most definitely do not have a Best Buy award from Which for energy.

But you can get those inclusive UK calls for £7.75 with MoreTalk 3 regardless. So the electricity and gas would have to be less than or equal to £7.75 cheaper from Scottish Power before UW was a good deal. Apologies if I misunderstand your figures, but they appear to be at least £18 a month cheaper with Scottish Power. So on that basis UW electricity and gas wouldn't be cheapest for you.
I'm not sure how being on paper makes a bill easier to understand. Worst case scenario with Scottish Power would be to print the bill out on a computer printer. Worth it to most people for a £120 a year saving I should imagine. With the added advantage that if you lose the bill you have a backup PDF of it and can print it out again.
I pay Utility Warehouse less than I would for my utilities than I would to any other combination of companies by shopping in the way I want to. I like the paper bill, not because it is easy to understand but because I like it. It is my choice. They send me the bill and I do not have to print it out. My way of shopping works for me. I understand that you can not comprehend others having different views to you but it is a fact of life that others and I do.The mind of the bigot is like the pupil of the eye; the more light you pour upon it, the more it will contract.

So them saying that Utility Warehouse is the best supplier is not an award. I'll just accept them as best supplier then. No problem.

It's weird, isn't it? On every award show the ones voted for by the viewers/listeners/customers etc are always the most prestigious ones, so UW coming out on top of a customer-voted poll would surely be a better result than, for instance, the FT making them Company of the Year (not that that isn't a fantastic award, of course). Maybe Cardew is just smarting that his beloved energy supplier came second last (just above npower ) and historically has always done terriibly badly in these types of customer-based surveys. I believe BGs less than glorious customer satisfaction result (38%!) was virtually half of the score UW got. I haven't checked but I would assume his preferred telephony supplier probably achieves similar survey results. Some people are prepared to put up with crap service and others are not. It's a free country.
I'll be watching with interest when his fixed BG deal ends in April 2010 to see whether he follows his own advice on here and goes with the cheapest that week, lol, or if he sticks with his beloved BG (11 years and counting with these at his house?). Should be interesting indeed.Call me Carmine....

I don't think so. According to TPTB you should declare it at least once a day on any thread associated with utilities.
I remember you telling us you'd asked how often you have to tell us in a thread to do with UW how often you have to state that you get a financial benefit from signing customers to UW.
Nothing about other suppliers. I post it when it is relevant to the discussion - I've nothing to hide. The issue is far too many people try to take this thread away from discussions about UW, and they feel that my employer gives them an excuse (witness Carmine's irrational outburst when I said that he took up a lot of screen space, but didn't say very much - in a light hearted post.)1carminestocky wrote: »And you work for?? Oh yes, that company that charge their loyal punters exit fees to transfer to another tariff. Let's not have pious nonsense from someone deriving his livelihood from such a shower of %^%$.
If you are going to look at it that way, every UW customer should post as they can gain financial benefit from recommending UW to prospects (like Carmine does).0 -

There is a huge difference in being awarded a Best Buy award and the results of a customer satisfaction survey.
For a Best Buy award the services are tested independantly.
For a customer satisfaction survey, vested interests can vote for the company
Nobody in their right minds can possibly believe that UW offer Best Value when they are consistently one of the most expensive suppliers for the majority of customers in UK and even Which state they charge 20% more than the cheapest supplier.
Then of course you would probably argue that Cyprus always voting for Greece in the Eurovision song contest is nothing to do with a lot of Greek Cypriots living on the island;)0 -
Thanks to Mech and Carmine for the no tie in confirmation!
As I have been with UW for so many years I'm a little unsure of how EDF are going to bill me. Will it be a fixed direct debit every month? Can I submit readings every month and will this change my direct debit payments if I seem to be under or over paying? How will they decide what to set my direct debit at? Do they look at my last years useage using my readings.
Sorry for all the questions!
Thanks

Not sure about EDF but from posts on here some suppliers are now only reviewing DD amounts 6 monthly  I would give them a ring and see what difference inputting monthly online meter reads will make. One thing is certain - you will not be paying exactly for what you've used with EDF, but if you keep an eye on your usage and make sure the DDs are 'sort of' reflecting that usage you should be fine. The habit not to drift into is to stop reading your meter monthly due to not getting a bill every month with EDF - easily done.
Ps Due to that worrying 'guaranteed 2% discount on standard' T&C it's important you keep an eye on the tariff rate and make sure it doesn't creep up. Not saying it will but if they hadn't at least contemplated putting tariff prices up in the future, why put that T&C in in the first place?Call me Carmine....

Hi janninew.
I did have a look at EDF's conditions etc for any possible "catches" as you asked, and posted about this yesterday.
There is one regarding a tie in, that Mech and Carmine may have overlooked:
6.You agree to remain on the EDF Energy Online Tariff Version 5 for each account until the Online Tariff Version 5 comes to an end, which, unless we write to you to advise of any extension, shall be 31 July 2010 (the ‘End Date’).So if you are concerned about a tie in, it would be best to get it confirmed (in writing) from EDF that they won't hold you to this condition, (which you do agree to when signing up for this tariff)0
