You stated that Eon wont give a discount on your final bill - WRONG

    1. If you time your switch to complete after your final bill, you will recieve your discount. Even you have finally admitted that this is correct. You're starting to tie yourself up in knots mate.

    2. Yes, I fully accept that my discount is paid quarterly, I was incorrect, I fully accept this. 3. Though your persistence that Eon will not pay a discount on your final bill is bordering on insanity.

    1. Tell me how exactly you are going to do this?

    2. Wowza wowza wowza. Which does beg the question why are you on here advising people what to do with regard to their bills when you clearly don't even glance at your own/know to what they relate?

    3. There really is only one poster bordering on insanity in this exchange and it sure aint me, matey.

You admit Im right, then attack me in the same breath.
  • So if I understand what is being said is this, you do not receive a discount on your final EON bill, therefore if you are being billed in advance quarterly lets say you decided to leave in Jan, but it finally switches beginning of Feb. Your final bill will have been for 3 months usage to which you will get no discount?

You clearly do receive a discount whilst being a customer but not on the final bill in essence losing you 25% of any discount as its paid quarterly, am I understanding correctly carmine?

It would all depend on when the switch was actually completed and when your last quarterly bill had been issued. Worst case scenario would be the last quarterly bill was based on charges up to end January, say, and the switch was actually competed end of April. Your final bill would be that last quarter and there would be no discount granted on that. This T&C by Eon is in many ways much more sneaky than an exit fee because an exit fee has a time limit placed on it - switch after that date and you're fine. the Eon T&C affects customers no matter how long they've been with the comapny (could be 20 years+!).

All this demonstrates that this is the sneakiset industry in the UK but as I've always maintained UW gets a disproportionate level of criticism on here by certain customers of the Big 6, some of whom aren't even aware of their own supplier's sneaky way.. Hypocrisy, in other words.

You dont get billed in advance, you're billed for the energy you consume. I have just received my gas bill, if I had planned my switch for the summer months (which would be wise) in advance so that it completed in a couple of weeks time. My leaving bill, for the last couple of weeks, peanuts, will not have a discount applied.

The problem is it's entirely clear that so few Eon punters would actually know about this T&C (you, like me, are a G&E geek hence our presence on here), you've been a customer for many years, indeed you often advise people regarding Eon's products. But EVEN YOU wasn't aware of this T&C! Until a non-Eon customer (embarrassing for you, err, me) told you about it. There followed several posts in complete denial and also stating you receive an annual discount paid annually in arreras etc etc until the evidence was so overwhelming you then changed tack and decided to suggest that the loss of discount would be minimal (in fact non-existant I believe you stated). What else can I do with regard to this situation?

If you don't know about the T&C then there would be no chance of trying to work round it, would there? If I hadn't told you about its existance you yourself could have been faced with potentiall a full quarter bill with none of the huge discount applied. Agreed? Similarly the 'average' Eon punter is clearly also unaware of thsi particular T&C so just switches at any stage. This could prove very expensive.

If it's demonstrated just one thing it's this - ALL energy companies have sneaky ways of doing some of their business. If a self-appointed Eon expert doesn't know something so basic as this T&C, then what hope Joe Public?

Firstly to jump into an ongoing argument, my thoughts on the triple value guarentee are such, its a guarentee and its written down, more than most companies would offer, and yes its hyped up to seem better than it is, but for anyone with half a brain who wishes to read in quite clear font size right underneath the big words is the rules, which yes make it seem worthless but its still there and if as an ID you offer the correct side of it, it works.

You say that "its a guarentee".

    In what way?

Then you go on to say the "rules, yes make it seem worthless", but as an ID, you offer the "correct side of it, it works"

But how does it work? Or are you really saying that if you are careful how you "offer" it to your gullibles (who won't expect you to mislead them), that they take it you are really guaranteeing them something of value (such as cheap prices)?
  • it's a guarantee in as much as guaranteed to be cheaper than the standard tariffs of the regional supplier, excluding dual fuel, on-line tariffs and monthly membership. If you feel that this is in fact not a guarantee that's your choice, its is one. I would agree its not the most worthwhile one, but its is a guarantee, fact.

The correct side in as much as what I say above, I would tell my potential customers that they have a written guarantee against STANDARD tariffs, no more, I would never say we are cheaper than anyone else (if we are not), or the cheapest as that's not correct and I morally could not say that.

Switching takes one day. It can howver take up to 8 weeks to process.

I'm just glad I don't have to worry about that anymore. Doesn't sound much fun trying to keep up with all the different T&Cs let alone tariffs.

I'm glad I left BG 10 years ago.

It isn't a "guarantee" at all - it's a sales aid, which can be cleverly worded to sound like a worth having price guarantee.

A "guarantee" provides a way to claim against it should it fail.

Over on the "secret" uw reps forum, it turns out that extra clauses can be brought in should it actually fail despite the catch all small print designed to ensure it's worthless.

A rep wanted to sign up a customer who (despite what the guarantee said) was getting his gas cheaper via BG.

The disgruntled rep (unbhappy at the prospect of losing all his commission etc for being unable to sign the customer up) contacted the uw HO to point out the situation.

Your HO who weaseled out of it by putting a new slant on the guarantee, now saying the guarantee has to be explained as only being effective over a 12 month period (even though its wording says UW is always cheaper than BG!), and telling the rep to use this new explanation of the worthless guarantee.

The unhappy rep published the UW email for all to see:
    Thanks for your email.

The Triple Value Guarantee (TVG) still applies.

However, it only applies when compared with a like for like direct debit tariff and does not allow for any duel fuel discounts, non standard or internet tariffs.

If compared with a like for like tariff the Guarantee applies over a period of a year. It is possible at any given point within that year that the companies covered by the TVG may be cheaper. We monitor our prices against their prices to ensure that over the course of a year the customer would pay less with us than with those companies.

I hope this clarifies how the TVG operates and should be interpreted or explained.
