There are some very stressed out people here (like cardew) who need to go and chill and think about HELPING people, not just getting angry!! Blimey, think I'll just go make my own mind up and stick to the OS thread, where, on the whole people WANT TO HELP!!!!Clearing debt to save for a simple wedding.Starting 2016 With debt of £77000

You sure you have the right person?
Why angry? and you thanked me for my response to your query.
You asked for information and got it - what reply did you want?0 -
As you are obviously keen to discuss other UW services, the mobile Flex 300 for £12/month SIM only deal is easily beaten!
(Flex = Any combination of texts and minutes) e.g. 150 mins + 150 texts.
A real money saver can get 300 minutes + unlimited texts + unlimited own network calls for £10/month.
Thanks, i'm interested in comparing quotes for things I need. What company is that with? I know my area is particularly poor on some networks. O2 and T-Mobile are ok, but 3 and Vodafone are no go for me. I'm not sure I need unlimited texts, I usually use 100-200 in a month and generally talk for less than 100 minutes, so Flex 300 would suit fine. I think UW use T-Mobile, and like the sound of the Flex approach, but are there any similar tariffs cheaper? I don't think I have anything to gain by using UW, so would we willing to consider others too if they compare.0 -

Things undoubtedly get a little heated on here sometimes. I think people do want to help, but sometimes their bedside manner isn't too good. I wasn't here at the very start when some UW representatives obviously caused some trouble, but a lot of that was quite some time ago now (someone dredged up a thread that was 4 years old a few posts ago). It's unfortunate that everyone is therefore viewed with suspicion by some and it does seem that certain people will not hear a good word said about anything UW, come hell or high water. What is almost certain is that those people have never been customers of UW and haven't even used the services they comment on with such vigour, so can't possibly know what they are like.
I can only speak as I find, and for me the customer service has always been good, communication is good so far, bills are understandable and what small problems i've had have been handled well. I don't take their gas and electric because I have cheaper, perfectly satisfactory service elsewhere, but I do have the discount card and telephony. The mobiles didn't look very good when I joined, but there's just been an update and they look far more competitive now. Better handsets too, although i'm only looking for a SIM at the moment.
Hope this helps.0 -

Consider Virgin (Runs over T-Mob) Sim Only 30 day contract. 200 minutes 3000 texts.Free Voicemail. £10 a month .Sim is free. £5 with UW.Plus if your number is important, no fee for porting your number away. UW use to charge an admin fee for porting away i dont know if they still do.

Thanks. I'd completely forgotten about Virgin. If they use T-Mobile then coverage should be ok for me too. Looking at that page, i'd add approx £9 per month to that £10 for daily internet access.
I now have some comparable monthly costs:
O2 SIMplicity (incl. data, 300 mins, unlimited texts) £15
UW Flex 300 SIM Only (300 mins/texts £12 + data (£5) = £17
Virgin £10 + (inc 200 mins, 3000 texts, 30p day data = £190 -

Also, don't forget to include any potential savings that the addition of a "mobile" contract with UW. This will increase your number of services and increase the "calls" benefit.Personally I'm always ready to learn, although I do not always like being taught - Sir Winston Churchill0 -
One issue with UW regarding mobiles/broadband is they don't do retention deals, which is a major moneysaver with the "competition".0

I only make calls after 6pm anyway, and these are charged at something like 3.5p per call. This only adds up to about £1 per month (in fact it adds nothing because there's a min spend of £1 anyway).
I think O2 is going to get my further business as i'm already a customer and it has other benefits like preferential concert tickets, which I quite like.0 -
I just had a quick look at the mobiles...
£299 for an Iphone on a 48 month contract???? You must be having a laugh!
LOL @ 48 month contract...Missing Tesco R&R since Feb '07 :A & now a "Tesco veteran" apparently!0
