Could the poster be referring to the charge levied when using an Independent Gas Transporter?

I think that is what I am saying

    Quoted by EDF

    ''GAS TRANSPORTATION CHARGE''

''As your home is not directly connected to the National Grid Gas pipeline network, your gas charges will be subject to an additional daily charge''

My neighbour who works for Eon has said they all charge for this but I will ask tomorrow

In your case (as you say you get your gas via an independent gas transporter) then you do have to pay an additional charge for this.

eg Scottish power charge an additional £42 (inc VAT) a year.

Right, some Utility Warehouse guy is coming to see me next Monday. I have tried reading this thread but to be honest it's full of immature jibes and pointless comments!! I am trying to work out whether or not the appointment will be a waste of time - i.e. are they any good?? I am guessing not due to the shear size of this thread, but can anyone give me an unbiased, objective view??? Thanks!

Do you mean you are considering being a rep or buying utilities from them?

This is MSE Martin's view of them for buyers of their utilities:
unlike most energy companies and reseller Utility Warehouse operates by network marketing which means its customer are encouraged to sell on the product to their friends and they get commission for it.

This tends to mean it does well on feedback charts, as customers have a vested interest, and many of them are evangelical about the firm. That in itself doesn’t make the product bad, but in our view it is no better or worse than any other energy provider.

Utility Warehouses prices are included in all the main comparison services we list therefore if the company turns out to be cheapest for you it should be listed by the comparison sites and then it’s worth going for.

The main pitch of utility warehouse is that you can also get cheap mobile, broadband and home phones with it and that reduces the fee. In general we find that using the standalone cheapest providers undercut this – so always compare with those before signing up to it, see cheap home phones, cheap broadband and cheap mobiles guides for more.

You can see what happened to the gullible Spanish teachers when the rep called to sell them energy:

And what happened when he called back the next day to sell them the business:

If you are considering getting utilities from them, do your own research and see how expensive they are for energy at any comparison/switching site.

How do you judge a post to be unbiased?

If you consider those of us, who time and again post that UW have just about the highest gas and electricity prices in UK, are biased - then what should we post?

    What do you consider objective?

UW have just about the highest gas and electricity prices in UK! Absolute statement of fact!! Is that not objective?

Every comparison website you can find will confirm UW's high prices! Is that not objective?

Thanks, so if I pay 1 year in advance I save £36 a year with Scottish Gas but I must pay £42 additional charge.
Is this £42 for both Gas and electric?

I must admit not being connected to the National grid is very complicated as to compare prices when the connection charge is not figured in comparison sites makes it a royal pain

You don't have to - not all suppliers charge you extra.
There've been a few threads about this on here - do a search.

    Hi niksyg

You have come to the wrong place if you want an unbiased, objective view.:D

Listen to the UW guy and decide if it is right for you. Compare your current bills with UW and look at the pros and cons. If the ID is good, he will give you an honest assessment, if not, then you can always come back here for some lively comments.

    Good luck

Is this £42 for both Gas and electric?

On the consumption figures you gave you should save much more than £36 by switching away from UW. What figures is the £36 saving based on?

The £42 is what Scottish Power charge to customers who get their gas via an IGT.

    Electricity isn't affected by this.

We cannot say whether or not the quote you have includes this or not. You need to tell us which electricity region you live in to be given a quote based on the info you have given us so far.

According to Scottish Gas I can save £36 per year but only if I pay in advance

Scottish Gas is not the same company as Scottish Power.

We are talking about savings of £142 here.
