Balderdash. All companies will try their utmost to make themselves look "the best.
They only get away with it because its on a website. But i suspect a complaint if anybody could be bothered to Ofcom would get them to comply.
If they did it in/on a newspaper, tv,or radio the ASA would soon crack down on them. I believe they have crossed swords with the ASA in the past.0 -
You youself may have broken the law before at some time in your life, but it doesn't necessarily make you a hardened criminal. All companies fall foul of advertising rules at some point, even the Government have!
I've looked at my bill again, and the £1.60 is only for calls. They apparently haven't charged me any line rental at all for March 2010.0 -

My bill was fine this month, though I didn't pay anything for my line rental or calls (same as every month though!) due to my spend on the cashback card. I've just invested in a new dyson animal hoover which was paid for using my UW card, so will be extra cash back next month!:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

In fact uw charge much more for anything and everthing they sell unless the customer sets up a direct debit - though don't specifically point this out either!
Isn't this the norm these days though? I get a discount with EDF as I pay by direct debit, same with United Utilities, UW are hardly the only company that do this!!:heart2: Newborn Thread Member :heart2:

Mine doesn't show any charge for line rental at all, just calls. Not talking about after discount card deductions, it's just not there at all. Presumably next month there'll be a double charge?0 -

Thats right - Not wanting to be pedantic (perish the thought) but there there can be significant difference between something that is unlawful and something that is illegal i.e.
"When applied to promises, agreements, or contracts, the term denotes that such agreements have no legal effect. The law disapproves of such conduct because it is immoral or contrary to public policy. Unlawful does not necessarily imply criminality, although the term is sufficiently broad to include it."
Obviously illegal can also refer to a sick bird2013 TARGET £30k

The difference is UW dont want non d/d customers and dont like distributors signing them up.
If they do sign up they pay a surcharge of 10% more than the prices dd customers pay on all services (except for Home Phone line rental).

If it concerns you that much why not ask them ,or ask the distributor who signed you up to find out.;)0 -

But you mislead us!
UW don't give you any discount for paying by direct debit (as the others do).
But unless you pay by DD they surcharge your bills by 10%!0 -
They increased their line rental prices on their site before telling their distributors . Details of their line rental increase from £9.90 to £10.75 a month will be shown on next bill, together with other changes in telephony prices.0
