Depending on how it is offered, I may not see any problem in receiving information that may end up saving money on the off chance of winning a new car. I would be dubious if the person making the offer did not answer relevant questions I asked.

I believe that would be the way many people would understand it. Especially, you know, those who think Utility Warehouse is the devil's vehicle for world subjugation.

You need to do a bit of work to see if you can save money.
Try a few comparison sites, and remember to use your annual consumption figures, NOT what you pay per month.

I have dug out our last 12 months of electricity and gas bills. what figures do i need to look for ?
Woudl appreciate the help, am on a mission to prove to my husband that we can save money on this !

i dont know why is reluctant, he has always been in charge of this, but since i found this site, I have saved £500 a month, by switching car insurance on 2 cars, house insurance, changing mortage, pet insurance, and cancelling my gym membership. this is the one thing left he has stalled on.

You need your consumption figures fro electricity and gas in kilowatt hours for the last 12 months.

With electricity its straightforward, just subtract the reading from 12 months ago from your latest. That will be your annual consumption, for guidance the mine is around 2000 Kwh, yours will probably be at least twice that.

You do the same thing for your gas, unfortunately gas units have to be converted into Kilowatt hours, once you have the value in ether metric or imperial units do the conversion as shown on your bill. In my case I use around 10,000 Kwh of gas., again i'm a low user.

Then armed with the above feed the information into a comparison site.e.g http://www.energyhelpline.com/

    Though there are many others.

Well, we have now swapped energy providers. From the end of March we will be have left UW (thank Goodness) and have moved to EDF.

The UW customer service for us was poor, their fuel expensive and their ability to sort out issues negligible.

I can't wait. I have no doubt we have done the right thing.

for Electricity I have these figures

    Feb 09 882 kwh
    Feb 2010 1264 kwh

for 12 months we used 12956kwh (is that realy bad??):o

Ive just used the link given and EON E.ON - FixOnline NSC v6 (ELEC ONLY) (until April 2011)
came up as best saving us £482 a year ! my in laws are with them, I compared bills with them Feb half term. I guess i can switch one at a time, as it will take me a while to sort out the gas bit ! (they pay about £40 a month less than i currently do, but are very frugal, where as we are not )

omg - back again, ive done it for both ..... EON FixOnline NSC v6

    saves us £733 annually !!!! WOW !!!!

so utility warehouse people, can I stop having my electricicty and my gas from uw, and then sort my broadband and phone at a later date ? do I just sign up with new supplier and they do the cut off etc on my behalf ? what happens to any credits i have in the account ?

    Thankyou

Sorry don't understand your electricity calculations.

If a meter reading taken in feb 09 was say:- 12262
and the reading for Feb 2010 is say :- 14327

    Then 14327 - 12262 = 2065 Kilowatt Hours.

Where I live in the East Midlands that would cost me £322 on a UW standard user tarrif.
The cheapest would be nPower sign on line 17 costing £195 saving £126.
    ( I used Energy Helpline)

This excludes any cross selling discounts that you could get with their phone/broadband/mastercard etc.

To change your supplier you contact the one you wish to swap to and they do all the work.
If you have a credit with your current supplier it should be refunded to you when you change over.

  • sorry i got that figure by deleting useage last year (Feb 09) from useage figure this year (feb 10) according to the bill, i didnt write the correct info down for you ! it gave me 12956kwh. That seems massive compared to your figure but I knew we were high users. (even so I do spend most of day switching off things)

That is indeed a massive amount of electricity, I assume you have electric heating and a very large house/hotel.
