For those poor people that are coming to this thread for the first time and are feeling a little overwhelmed with the "he said, she said" element of this and where the truth lies - I can give you one piece of advice - when reading the thread look out for the views of the actual customers of UW who post here.

They will be the best informed on the thread.

BUT - customers who are also UW distributors have their own agenda are a further category that MAY, I'm not saying WILL, offer misleading advice because they have their own financial agenda.

In reality this thread does not contain many actual customers who are not also distributors. Many of those who are against UW are also not actual customers.

Sieve out the actual customers and then you will have a better idea.

BUT ALWAYS research before swapping to UW.

Whilst I understand the point you are making about the 'he said - she said'
arguments in this thread, that is because it suits the UW dealers to divert the subject away from UW's high prices.

Of course those against UW are not customers; but we can look up prices! There have been posts from a few UW customers who have read this thread and realised how much extra they were paying and left the company.

Any discussion should be based of the the provable facts about UW prices? Certainly most of the 'anti UW' faction would be happy if that were the case. This faction are not prepared to let UW salesmen get away with the misleading rubbish they spout on this thread and all over the internet.

Their gas and electricity (from Npower) is cheaper for a customer who has never switched since the market was liberalised.

That indeed used to be the case and was the basis of UW's Triple Value Guarantee(TVG) i.e. they guaranteed to be cheaper than someone taking the Britsh Gas Standard tariff and the standard tariff from the Regional electricity supplier.

However since the reduction in BG's gas standard rate even that discredited TVG no longer applies and there is no more expensive combination of gas and electricity from any of the major companies than the supply from UW.

Agreed, and that goes for any other company too.

I am an independent distributor with Utility Warehouse and the views I express may not be shared by the company.

Thats all very well but this site is about money saving is it not.
Absolutely. And I save money in a way that suits my wants. Just because it does not suit yours, does not meant that many potential cusomers will not be in a similar position to others and myself who do get what we want.

You talk about "saving money" by buying expensive gas and electricity (off the company you represent), then part paying for it with your cashback which you have earned by shopping at the uw partner retailers.

How come you can't spot the flaw in this argument?

(Money savers wouldn't be going through all these hoops just to boast you are able to get cheaper utilities - just buy your energy elsewhere, and keep all your cashback yourself!)

On one hand they claim to be cheaper. Then they say " during periods when retail prices are changing, we typically announce our new prices after most of the “Big 6” have set their new prices in order to ensure our new prices are competitive and in line with our “Triple Value” guarantee. Therefore when energy prices are falling, there may be a short period before our new prices take effect when our prices may be higher than those available from certain other suppliers."

Thank, yes I was aware of that provision.

It is 'UW code' which means that we almost always have the very highest gas and electricity prices in UK, by picking the very highest standard gas price in UK and combining it with the very highest electricity price in UK from another company, we could claim that our prices were marginally cheaper as long as you didn't take into account UW's membership fee and any discounts the others offered.

However even that dismal claim, has a get out clause.
  • Is there any company that is more expensive for dual fuel customers on standard tariffs than UW ?

We have an admission that Utility Warehouse are THE MOST EXPENSIVE for people using prepayment meters, so we can discount those.

    Only Good Energy and Utilita!

Even BG's much derided standard tariff is approx 12% cheaper than UW.

For someone in the Midlands on average consumption UW are 35.8% more expensive than the cheapest tariff.
